Clay's POV

Nick, George, and I were messing around and being stupid when I saw Deena walk into the kitchen. Nick tackled George so I took this as my moment to escape and go into the kitchen too. I saw her getting out bread and some cheese and turkey.

"Watcha making?" I startled her before she laughed at herself. I hopped onto the counter and sat and watched.

"Grilled cheese" she smiled and turned the stove on, grabbing a pan. I heard someone stumble into the kitchen and saw George with his hair all messed up.

"He's going to kill me" he breathed heavily and laughed while nick came in too.

"You guys are stupid" Deena laughed while grabbing a few cups and getting us some water. We all said thank you and took big gulps like we had ran a marathon.

"Thanks mom" nick smiled brightly and she rolled her eyes. "I'm surprised you didn't join in the big fight" I chuckled and agreed.

"I'm just tired" she shrugged her shoulders and continued to flip the slices of bread in front of her. She did seem more tired today for some reason, I didn't realize until now.

"How come?" George hopped on the counter next to me and I shoved him off. "Hey!"

"Don't sit on the counters George" I smiled as he hopped back up. Deena grabbed the grilled cheese and put it on a plate, handing it to nick, which got a groan of complain from me and George.

"I didn't sleep well last night"

I worry about her. She's growing to be one of my best fiends, and practically already is one. Everything she had told me with her ex was a lot to take in, and I don't even know how I would handle it. She handles her emotions very well. I'd just be in a fit of anger and sadness. I stayed quiet as her and the guys kept up in conversation. Does she hide her emotions? Does she have thoughts of..ya know. That? She seems happy sometimes, But then she'll seem off and put away. I want to help but I have no idea how.

"Clayyyy, earth to clayyy" I heard George as he waved his hand in my face. I got out of my trance and saw Deena holding a grilled cheese in front of me and smiling. She let out a laugh as I grabbed it.

"Thanks" I smiled back. George and back were still stuffing their faces when I looked up to Deena again.

'You okay?' She mouthed with a sympathetic smile. I nodded my head and smiled back. She turned back around and cleaned up the stuff she had out before George hopped down.

"Please, let me" he smiled, taking the pan and plates from her hands. "You made the food no need to clean up as well"

"Thank you" she smiled before making her way back into the living room. Me and nick followed her as George cleaned, and she was searching through Netflix.

"Did you leave him in there by himself?" I looked back in the kitchen and shrugged, laughing and flopping onto the couch. She groaned and got up again, making her way into the kitchen.

Deena's POV

I groaned and made my way back into the kitchen to see George doing the few dishes there were to do, along with the others Clay had sitting out. He was humming a song and I walked up next to him, drying the newly cleaned dishes. He looked over and gave me a smile which I returned. It was quiet, but it was comfortable.

"Deena" I felt someone like my cheek. I turned and saw George looking at me in confusion "Are you alright?" He asked and furrowed his eyebrows.

"Oh-uh yeah" I smiled at him, and he nodded as if he was saying okay

"I was saying your name, ya know?" He chuckled and handed me the last plate. "Like, loudly"

"Oh I'm sorry" I apologized and gave him an apologetic look.

"No it's fine! You just seemed like you were in your head for awhile" I finished drying the last plate and was about to put it away, seeing Patches run towards him, before he laughed and spoke again.

"Max is coming for you, Deena"

I dropped the plate and froze. I heard Clay and nick run in and everything went blurry.

"What did you say?" I turned to George again. I felt the other two's eyes locked on me.

"I said Cats love running to you," he looked between me and Clay, worry clearly in his eyes. "Did I say something wrong? I- I'm sorry"

"No," I shook my head and finally looked at him in the eyes. "You didn't I'm sorry. Clay where's your broom?" He just looked at me then at George and nick.

"Nick can you please clean this up? The broom is in there" he pointed towards a closet and I looked at him confused. He walked towards me and gently grabbed my arm, leading me to his room. He shut the door behind him and sat down on the bed, patting next to him for me to sit.

"What" my voice cracked and I already knew what he was going to say. He was about to put his hand on my shoulder but paused when he remember how I told him I didn't like being touched when overwhelmed. I nodded, still not looking at him.

"What happened?" He was quiet, and I heard nick and George faintly talking about who was better at Minecraft. Good, they aren't talking about me.

"My head was fucking messing with me" I started to clench my fists and jaw, feeling angrier and angrier every second. I relaxed once he gave my shoulder a squeeze.

"You didn't hear what he actually said, did you?" All I did was shake my head. My leg was bouncing vigorously as I leaned on them. I heard him sigh and take a few breaths as if her were to talk, but he'd stop. "What is it that you did hear?"

I slowly looked up to him and made eye contact. He let go of my shoulder and I sat still. We stayed like this for about 30 seconds before I finally answered.

"Max is coming for you" he sat there, dumbfounded by what I said. "You don't have to say anything. But that's why I dropped the plate, and silently freaked out. God they both must think I'm crazy. I shot up and started pacing. I needed to punch something. I clenched my fists and kept pulling at my hair, Clay still shocked.

"Deena I-" she stopped mid sentence, clearly showing he had no idea how to react. I was fighting back the tears I felt building up on my waterline. I felt my throat getting stuffed up from holding them back, and my eyes were getting red from keeping them open. I stopped and looked at him, and he stood up and stood there.

"I really want to hug you right now" I really appreciated how he didn't do it without saying something, because if he didn't I would have gotten uncomfortable by the sudden contact. We stood there again in silence for around 30 seconds before I latched myself onto him, breaking into a fit of tears. "It's okay" he was rubbing my back and combing his hands through my hair to calm me down.

"I just" I started before chocking up on my sobs " I don't understand why I have to deal with this all"

"Everything has a reason, Deena, and even though this situation is beyond as hard as I can imagine, it'll all be okay" he let go and looked at me in the eyes, holding me by my shoulders. "You will be okay, everything will be" I simply nodded my head.

"Thank you" I smiled, wiping my tears.

"Do you want to rest?" I slowly nodded and he walked over to the closet, grabbing a hoodie and some of his sisters shorts she had left here once. I went into the bathroom and change before walking out, and laying down. He made sure I was okay before walking out of the room, about to close the door.

"Please leave it open" I mumbled from the bed. He looked at me in a questioning look.

"You sure? We might be loud" I nodded and smiled.

"It's more comforting at a time like this than annoying" he smiled and walked away, leaving me to rest. I felt myself dozing off to the sounds of them arguing over which season of stranger things was the best. It was nice; all of them here. I felt like I was in the right place for the first time in a long time.
