George's POV

I quickly ran to my room trying not to get upset. Does she really just see us as friends? I mean friends don't necessarily cuddle nights in a row right? Or do half the things we do? Maybe I'm just overlooking things and she never even thought of me as anything else. That hurts to think about. Then again her and Clay are also close and I walked in on him literally holding her face. It's as if she loves messing with my feelings. I heard running and shuffling in her room as I watched the amazing world of gumball. Then I heard the front door shut, which made me wonder what she was doing so I, of course, looked out the window to see her grabbing her board and heading to the beach. I remember her telling me she loved surfing to get away from things that stressed her out, or made her day a little rough. Well she did say I was stressing her out. I sat down again trying not to get upset but my eyes couldn't help but water.

"Hey George do you want to go to the store? I need to get more beer and you're twenty o-" I spun around to see Nick, who froze immediately. "Woah are you crying?"

"No" I laughed and stood up. "My dumbass tried touching my eyeballs to see what it felt like" I smiled and grabbed my phone.

"Oh okay you scared my for a minute" he smiled back as we walked out the door and into the car. I looked outside the window and could barely see the ocean and the waves.

"Do the waves seem a little rough to you too? Or am I just not used to seeing the water?" I laughed to cover up my nerves. He looked out the window at a stop light and made a look.

"Damn yeah that currents rough. There's probably riptides and shit" he nodded and I took a deep breath in, before turning my focus back to the music. "Why?"

"I think Deena went-"

"Denise is out there!?" He slammed on the brakes and luckily, we were the only ones on the roads. My eyes widened and I slowly nodded before he sped around in a rough u turn. My body pressed to the window before he started speeding down the road. "Jesus what did you not tell me"

"I-I'm sorry I didn't know" I stuttered out. Worried Nick can easily turn into an angry Nick, which we don't want.

"No it's okay" he pulled into the driveway and ran out of the car and down the path we had to the beach. "Go get Clay!" I nodded and quickly went inside.

"Clay!?" I shouted as soon as I walked through the door. Nothing. "Clay!!"

"What!?" I heard a faint yell from upstairs and ran up to find him watching tv.

"The water" I pointed out the glass doors that faced the ocean and he slowly looked over, only for his eyes to open quickly. "Deena's out there man"

"Fuck" he mumbled and ran to the doors to the balcony, which had stairs that led down to the path also. We ran down to the beach and saw Nick, fully clothed and drenched, carrying Deena before laying her down. There was a surf board snapped in half that was barely making it onto the shore, coming in and out as each wave moved onto the sand. "Is she okay?!"

"She passed out but she's breathing!" Clay ran over and I stayed behind a little bit. What do we do? Is this my fault? Since I stressed her out? How did I even stress her out though? It doesn't make sen-

"George come on get the board what the hell are you doing?" Nick shouted from where they were. I shook my head from my thoughts and ran to the board, grabbing it and catching up to them since they already started walking back.

"Is she okay?" I asked quietly as soon as I was next to them again.

"I'm fine" I heard her mumble and I nodded, keeping quiet. I still stayed behind a little bit but I know that Clay helped her get clothes and she changed before her helped her get into bed to take a nap. She said she was really sore and tired. Nick went to shower and changed. I was sitting in the living room watching top gear and he came back up.

"She's already knocked out" he let out a laugh and I just smiled a little and nodded, which made him give me a weird look before sitting down next to me. I tried to ignore his stare burning into my soul but you can't really do that with him. "What happened?"

"Nothing I just-"

"Are you two together?!" He sat up straight and continued to stare at me. I looked at him and shook my head quickly. He nodded and leaned back again. "Did you do something?"

"I don't know"

"What do you mean you don't know?"

"I mean I don't know. Last time I checked we were fine but then she just-" I stopped and rubbed my face. "She said I was stressing her out? Quite rudely also. And then she started just calling me a friend and I th-"

"You thought you were going somewhere?" I just nodded and brought my attention back to the tv. "Who did she say it to?"

"Well the only time I think she knows I heard was earlier this morning. But the past week I've heard it a few times. On the phone with Darryl, or Ian, or just talking to Clay but still"

"It hurts you?" I once again found myself nodding. He furrowed his eyebrows for a second as he thought about what I said.

"Am I overreacting? I feel like I am just forget all of that-" I started to stand up but he yanked me back down and pointed at me.

"Nuh uh stay let me think" I sighed and leaned onto my legs. "So you like her?"

"No shit" I rolled my eyes and he cocked his head to the side.

"And you didn't tell me?" He acted offended and I glared at him. "Not the time, got it"

"Yeah" he continued to think for a minute before he was ready to speak again.

"Has she given you signs of being more than friends?" Now I was the one thinking. I mean we're connected at the hip when all of us go out, and we sleep with each other and cuddle, and compliments are constant, which comes with the both of us getting red. Is that what only friends would do? No it isn't. I at least don't think so.

"Yeah?" I scratched my neck and looked back to him. "I think so?"

"We'll have you kissed?"

"No"

"Okay, have you slept with each other?"

"In what way?"

"Have you fallen asleep in the same bed"

"Well yeah but friends-"

"Do you cuddle?"

"Yeah-"

"See I wouldn't be able to do that if I was just friends with a girl. And Deena seems like the type of person who wouldn't let someone she was only friends with hold her. She's gone through too much" he spoke quickly and I just sat there with a blank expression on my face.

"Okay" I nodded and heard footsteps coming from down stairs and Clay walked in. He furrowed his eyebrows at us and walked over.

"What are you guys talking about?" He asked as he sat down next to Nick.

"I'm trying to figure out if there's something going on between him and Deena" Clay simply scoffed at his words and shook his head, making us both confused.

"Of course there is" he laughed and Nick made a 'thank you' hand motion towards him. "Have you seen the way they both turn blood read when they do stuff, and they're practically handcuffed together when we go out. And Jesus the way they look-"

"Okay!" I shut him up and stood up, getting ready to walk away. "Then why does she keep calling me a 'friend' then?"

"Because she's confused" he shrugged like it was obvious. "Considering her last boyfriend tried to kill her and all of us. Let alone he did kill her best friend, she's going to be confused."

Now I feel like a dick.
