Deena's POV
I woke up at around one in the morning. My face felt extremely dry from the tears that had covered my face last night. I tossed and turned trying to fall asleep but I couldn't. I heard I soft meow and looked down at my feet to see patches. I smiled and patted the bed by my chest, watching her let out a big stretch before curling up. I slowly petted her and soon she was asleep again. I sighed, realizing I wouldn't be falling asleep anytime soon. I stretched on the edge of the bed as I sat up and swung my legs back and forth. I realized there was a cup of water by my phone and smiled before taking a few sips and getting up fully. I walked to the window and quietly opened the blinds. The sky was covered in stars and a small patch of light illuminated, clearly being the Milky Way. I smiled as I looked at each constellation in sight. Miranda loves..loved astrology and always told me the stories. I looked outback and saw Clays shed. It was a flat roof so I took my opportunity to star gaze. I slipped on a hoodie from Clay's closet, seeing George's logo printed over the front, before slipping out of the room. I looked at the two friends on the couch before looking at the guest bedroom door. You could see light from under the door, but not a bedroom light. It seemed to be a tv due to the changing in light. I unlocked the back door and slid it open, quietly sliding it shut behind me before making my way to the shed and opening it up. I shown a flash light that was on the floor inside and saw exactly what I was looking for. I pulled out the ladder as quietly as possible and put it against the shed, before reaching in and grabbing a box that had a relaxing pool float. This is perfect. I sat on the roof with my legs dangling as I blew up and float and finally laid it down, getting on top of it. I stared at the sky in awe, feeling my eyes water as all the memories of me and Miranda flooded back. Every time we'd hang out she would beg me to go star gaze with her, sometimes making us go to the beach. I let the tears fall as I reached my hand out, pointing my index finger and tracing each constellation.
"Orion"
"Andromeda"
"Auriga"
"Cassiopeia"
"Ursa Major"
"The-" I realized I had forgotten the name, sadness flooding even harder in my heart. She always had to remind me the name, I could never remember
"The Pleiades" I jumped at the sound of someone from the ground, nearly falling of the edge before seeing George standing there.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you" he quickly stated, seeming worried. I smiled down at him and wiped my tears away as fast as possible.
"You're okay" I smiled. He stood there for a moment awkwardly. "You can come up here, George"
"O-okay" he stuttered out, not hesitating to climb up the ladder. I scooted over on the float and he let out a small giggle. "A pool float? Where did you even find that?"
"It was under the ladder" I smiled as we both laid down on our backs. It went quiet. It was comfortable, nothing close to discomfort.
"It's the seven sisters constellation" he put his arm up and pointed, connecting each star. He looked over to me by simply tilting his head and I smiled, nodding for him to continue. "The Pleiads were the seven daughters of Atlas, a Titan who held up the sky, and the oceanid Pleione, protectress of sailing. The sisters were Maia, Electra, Alcyone, Taygete, Asterope, Celaeno and Merope." I watched as he moved his hands around while he spoke, pointing to each constellation and explaining the story behind the stars.
"You like astrology?" I asked quietly, feeling my heard sink a little bit as I thought about Mira. He grinned and held his arms while nodding quickly. "So did Miranda."
"I'm sorry" he was quick to respond, making me shake my head.
"It's hard of course, but I'll be okay" I smiled, forcing my tears down my throat. He noticed and looked at me sympathetically. "The things we used to do just to get the best view of the stars" I let out a laugh, making him smile again.
"Tell?" He seemed intrigued, so I continued, both of us continuing to look at the bright specs above us.
"This was about a year ago, it was about a year after I moved here. We were already super close, being each other's best friend, and we both were friends with Ian"
"He's the one from the diner?"
"Yeah that's the one. Well we were on the way to the diner to get a late night desert, the sky was extremely clear, and the stars were so beautiful. Miranda was really exited to get home to star gaze, and would shut up about it" I paused while I let out a laugh "we got there and Ian was of course the only one there since he's kind of the only cook, but he made all of us some pastries as we hung out, talking away until he went to flip the sign to closed. Miranda, just out of the blue, asked how to get to the roof and he refused to tell her. We both convinced him to let us go on the room of the diner and forced him to join. It was so funny because he was so terrified that he would get in trouble. We laughed all night up there and had one of the best nights of my life. Eventually Ian had to go home, and told us to be careful when getting down. It was just me and her and it was more calm, both of us just admiring the sky before she began to tell me the backgrounds behind the constellations. She called them 'the stories of the sky' and always was so enthusiastic of astrology. It became a tradition to go on the roof until we did actually get caught and almost got arrested. But still, that roof has some crazy memories, George." I smiled. He sat silently for a moment, not knowing if I was done talking. "I'll have to take you there one night." He knew I was done then and smiled.
"It seems fun" he looked over to his side at me and I laughed.
"It really was." I sighed and wiped the small tears that made their way down my cheeks. I could feel his gaze leave my face as he returned to the sky.
"The stories of the sky" he repeated and smiled. "I think that's very nice sounding"
"Me too" I smiled. "I used to ask her to tell me more and more every time we'd have our 'starry nights'" I put in air quotes with my hands.
"Do you think we can have starry nights now that I know you're interested? The guys make fun of me for it all" he seemed scared to ask so I looked over and saw him playing with his sleeves. "If you don't want to, because I understand it was yours and Miranda's thing it's okay"
"George I used to do so much with her, that if I didn't choose to do it with anyone else anymore I couldn't leave my room" I reassured and he looked back at me. "We can have starry nights" his eyes lit up immediately, the guilty look being replaced.
"Really?" He smiled and I laughed.
"Really" we laid there for about an hour longer before we heard someone shout at us, making us both shoot up and spin around.
"What are you guys doing?!" Clay stood at the sliding glass doors. "You guys scared the shit out of me I didn't know where you were!"
"I'm sorry!" I laughed and he smiled immediately, me actually having a happy tone rather than sad. "What time is it?" I asked as George helped me down the ladder and putting the floaty and ladder back in the shed.
"Almost five" he smirked.
"5?!" Me and George exclaimed in shock, freezing while Clay shook his head laughing.
"Yes, 5"
"I've been out here since 1" I said with shock as I slipped inside.
"You were in there for three hours before I came out there?" George asked with confusion, me only nodding in a response.
"What were you even doing?" Clay laughed while trying not to wake Nick up.
"Star gazing" we both said as I put a thumbs up with a smile, making Clay roll his eyes. We all sat on the couch until I was finally tired of hearing Nicks obnoxious snoring and making him wake up.
