"Jennifer? Jennifer? Please say something!" Colin begged. "What?" I asked coming out of my trance. "They're gone," Ryan said. "Oh okay," I replied with a small smile. I doubt it was convincing. We exited the courthouse. I got in the car with Colin and all of us drove back to Colin's house. The lights were on when we got there. Jeff, Chip, Jonathan, Brad, and Robin came out from behind a couch. "Surprise" they shouted. "Wow! I wasn't expecting any of this," I said. "How did it go at the trial?" Brad asked. "We won," I answered. "That's great," he replied. I went upstairs. I changed into jeans and a t-shirt. I laid down on my couch. I thought about my life. Seeing my parents this morning terrified me. Before I knew it, I was in tears.
"Are you alright kitten?" Greg asked. I didn't even notice he was there. Greg sat down on the couch next to my feet. I practically jumped on him and clung to him as a lifeline. Greg held me close. "What's happened?" he asked. "My parents were there. They've ruined me" I trembled. I felt like a young child being so afraid. "Please listen to me darling. You're not ruined. Terrible things have happened to you. You can be certain that none of us will hurt you like those monsters did," Greg said. "I don't doubt it for a second that you would. I just want it to stop," I cried. He looked somewhat confused. "Memories are my greatest enemies. It's impossible for me to forget what they've done to me. Every night when I close my eyes, all I see is them hurting me. I'm so scared that they'll escape and get me. Promise me that if they get me, you'll keep doing comedy work. The world needs your humor," I said a tear trickling down my face. "Oh sweetheart, the world needs you too. You're an inspiration to all of us. Please don't give up on yourself," Greg replied taking my hands. I let his words sink in. I may be broken but I have something to live for. "I won't. Thank you," I whispered giving him a hug. "Anything for you my darling," Greg smiled. He left so I could freshen up. I put water on my face and patted it with a towel. I applied some lip balm and went downstairs.
There were balloons in the living room. We split into teams for a game of balloon volleyball. It was Jeff, Chip, Ryan, Colin, and me against Brad, Drew, Jonathan, Robin, and Wayne. We decided to take the game outside. Playing volleyball with a balloon was difficult but it was hilarious. Jeff put me on his shoulders so I could hit the really high balls. A balloon was falling close to the net. Jeff sprinted towards it. I held on to his shoulders for dear life. He hit the balloon. Jeff stopped suddenly to avoid a rock. I flew above his shoulders and landed on the ground. I was in pain but it was so funny that I had to laugh. I was laughing so hard that it looked like I was crying. "I'm so sorry Jennifer," Jeff said kneeling next to me. I looked up at him. "I'm not crying. I'm laughing," I replied between laughs. Jeff smiled and started laughing too. We rolled on the ground as we laughed. "Are you guys okay?" Chip asked. Jeff and I couldn't answer him. "They've gone mad," Ryan said. I may be mad, but I haven't felt this happy in a long time.
Hey guys! I hope you like this chapter. It's a bit short but the next chapter will be longer. I hope you all are doing well. As always, thanks for the support.
