Calling Me

I woke up in my bed. "I wonder how I got here," I thought to myself. I stretched my arms and gathered the strength to stand up. I rubbed my eyes and walked downstairs. "Good morning Jennifer," Colin greeted. "Good morning dad," I replied. "How did you sleep last night?" he asked. "I slept much better than I have the past month," I answered laughing. I glanced up at the clock. It was 10:45. "What's been going on for the past month?" Colin asked with a concerned look in his eyes. "I've been having trouble sleeping probably because of all the different time zones and living the night life with going on tour," I answered. "That's probably it," he affirmed. I helped myself to a handful of strawberries and two mini chocolate chip muffins. "That's all you're going to have?" Colin asked. "Last night, we had a big dinner," I explained. I popped my breakfast into my mouth daintily. "What do you think about heading to the beach with the rest of the cast?" he asked. "Sounds fantastic!" I exclaimed. I went through my morning routine and put on a purple tankini and shorts set. I brushed my hair, sprayed some perfume, applied lip gloss, and put on my sunglasses. Dad finished packing some food for lunch and walked down to the beach a few blocks away from home.

Drew, Jeff, and Robin were there when we arrived. "Hey kiddo! How did the tour go?" Robin asked hugging me. "It was unbelievably fun. We got to do concerts in Australia, Canada, and in America and got to meet so many fans. I received some presents from them. There were so sweet and kind," I answered hugging him. "Does anyone know when the studio will reopen?" Colin asked. "It will be open tomorrow for an episode taping," Drew answered. "That's great," Jeff replied. We kicked off our sandals and dipped our feet into the water. It was nice and warm. "Anyone up for a run before we hit the water?" Jeff asked. "Sure," I answered. We jogged at an average pace for the most part but I sprinted when we were getting close to the end of the beach. "How do you sprint running soft sand?" Jeff asked. "It just takes practice since it's so challenging," I answered. We drank some water to keep hydrated.

Jonathan, Brad, Wayne, Greg, Ryan, and Chip walked up to us. It was kind of strange not seeing everyone in the formal clothes we wear when we film the episodes. Wayne, Jeff, Chip, Jonathan, and I raced into the water. It felt amazing. We swam and jumped when huge waves came up from behind us. Colin waded into the water holding a surfboard. "I thought you might want to use it," he said. "Thank you so much dad," I replied giving him a quick hug. I hopped on the surfboard and paddled out to sea. I sat up and waited for a good wave. One about nine feet tall approached. I paddled quickly and stood up when it was right below me. No matter how many times I catch a wave, the thrill still gets me. People were clapping and cheering even outside of our whose line cast group. "Awesome ride," one of the guys stated. "Thanks," I smiled. "I didn't know you surf," Wayne said surprised. "I'm a California kid. Everyone learns to surf," I replied. This resulted in me giving all the guys surfing lessons which was kind of fun actually.

At 12:30, we got out of the water to have some lunch. Colin made incredible sandwiches, salad, trail mix, and strawberry lemonade. Everything was delicious. My eyes wandered to a young girl in the water. She appeared to be no older than three years old and she was struggling in the water. My lifeguard training kicked in. I raced away from the group and into the water with my surfboard. I paddled as quickly as I could towards the girl. She disappeared beneath the water. I dove off my surfboard and scooped her into my arms. I sat up on my board with her across my lap. I checked to see if she had a pulse or was breathing. There was no pulse so she was clinically dead. Immediately, I started CPR. My thoughts raced back to my childhood when I witnessed my parents drown my younger sister. I tried to save her but it was too late. I couldn't let the same thing happen to this girl. Suddenly, I felt a pulse and saw her breathing. She coughed a little. The young girl started crying. Tears came to my eyes. "You're okay," I soothed rocking her back and forth. She calmed down after a few moments and I paddled both of us to shore. We caught a small wave that made the girl giggle. I carried her up the beach. A crowd was on the sand clapping. A woman ran up to me. "Thank you for saving my daughter," she cried. "You're welcome! I'm glad she's okay now," I replied handing the woman her daughter. The two of them left. I was left with chills. The image of my sister drowning kept replaying through my mind. Chip put a towel over my shoulders. "That was really amazing. I don't think I could have reacted that quickly," he said. "Thanks," I replied.

We swam and surfed for a few more hours before calling it quits and heading home. Dad and I ate a small dinner and I took a shower afterwards. I was still feeling a strong connection to my sister. I have so many secrets that hurt too much to reveal. "I'm so sorry Kayla," I whispered looking at the sky through my window. My eyes filled with tears and I sank to the floor sobbing. I couldn't remember how long I sat there. I wish I could be with her. Life isn't and will never be the same without her. I crawled into bed and fell asleep dreaming that I was with her.

Hey everyone! I'm so sorry for the update delay. I was at my college orientation which was fantastic. I am so excited for the fall. Next week, I will be on vacation in Michigan so I won't have time to write. Thank you for reading this story and I'll see you in the next chapter.

Lots of love,
