"Okay mom I'm going to the Whose Line Is It Anyway audition," I called before I went out the door. "Get out of here you untalented girl," my mom screamed. "Love you too mom," I replied quietly shutting the door. Luckily the studio where the filming takes place is only two miles away. My parents don't think I deserve to drive anywhere. I've gotten used to it but it still makes me mad. I power walked to the studio for my audition. I straightened my black blazer and entered the studio. There was a small amount of people there because of the specific resume requirements. I became pretty famous for being in this children's show called The Saddle Club. It lasted two seasons but the cool part is that we got to make albums. A few of the albums made it to the top of the charts and a lot of our songs had pretty good ratings on the charts. We will probably make our last album within a year. I heard from the producers that they want to make another season with a new group of girls since me and the other girls are seventeen going on eighteen. We'll have to see how that will work out.
I was paired up a guy who looked a few years older than me. We did a scene together and watched the others do their auditions. After the director and producers talked for a few minutes, they called people into a room individually. Ten minutes passed and I was the only one left in the room. "Jennifer," a stagehand called. I got up and followed him to the special room. "We were very impressed with your improv scene and you have a very impressive resume. We would like to offer you a spot on the show. Congratulations," the director said. "Thank you so much," I smiled. "Are you free to come in tomorrow?" he asked. "I am," I answered. "That will be the first show of the new season. The show starts at 11:00 but be there early so you can meet everyone, get your microphone set up etc.," the director said. "Okay. That will be fine," I replied. We shook hands and I went back home.
I walked into the house quietly. "That was an awfully long audition. You didn't make any stops on the way home did you?" my mom questioned. "No mom. It took me a longer time because I won a spot on the show," I replied excitedly. "They must have been very desperate if you were the best one there," she criticized. I sighed and began to cook our lunch. "That took way too long to cook Jennifer," my dad yelled. "I'm sorry," I said. "You're sorry? You should be sorry. You have caused nothing but trouble since the day you were born," mom roared. I stayed silent and looked down at my sandwich. She slapped my wrist. "Look at me when I'm talking to you," she scolded. I looked up slightly then ate my lunch.
When I was done, I went upstairs to my room. Most of the time, it's my safe haven. I can watch Whose Line Is It Anyway on my computer. If I was deprived of that, I really wouldn't have much to live for. Butterflies fluttered around in my stomach. I still couldn't believe that I was really going to meet and even work with the Whose Line cast. All of them are great in their own way. I watched the show till it was time to make dinner.
Dinner didn't go any smoother than lunch. But I've gotten used to it. When the dishes were washed and put away, I went to the bathroom for a shower. I undressed and let the warm water fall over my body. There was a stinging sensation from getting slapped today and the fresh cuts that I got from my dad earlier this week. Luckily I haven't become numb enough to think that I deserve this. I'll never know why they treat me this way and I'm not sure I want to know the reason. I'll have to remember to put some makeup over them if I decide to wear a short-sleeved top. I washed myself with warm vanilla shower gel and cleaned my hair with a shampoo and conditioner that makes my hair shiny. When I was done, I dried myself with a towel. I put on comfortable pajamas. They are only comfortable because I bought them with my own money.
I brushed my hair and let it dry naturally for the night. I drank a glass of water. It was refreshing. I brushed my teeth in the bathroom before going to my room for the night. I picked out an outfit to wear for the filming tomorrow. It consisted of a purple blouse, black slacks, and black flats. I put it on my chair and turned off the lights. I crawled into bed and got in a comfortable position. I fell asleep hoping that my life would get better.
