Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

On Christmas, I woke up with a smile on my face.  A lot has happened since last Christmas, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.  I pulled on a pair of cozy Christmas socks and tiptoed downstairs in case Colin was still sleeping.  I found him sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of coffee.  "Merry Christmas dad," I greeted.  "Merry Christmas Jennifer," Colin replied smiling. We hugged. "Do you want to have breakfast or open presents first?" he asked. "Let's open presents first," I grinned. There were so many presents under the tree. "Some of them are from the cast so we can wait to unwrap those later when they come over for lunch," Colin said. We unwrapped the presents that we got each other. I got my favorite perfume, some new riding gear, tickets to a Josh Groban concert and backstage passes, and a horse calendar. I gave Colin a picture collage I created with pictures of the two of us in addition to a cookware set he's been dying to have.  "Thank you so much," he said tearing up.  "It's the least I could do for all you've done for me," I told Colin hugging him.  He wrapped his arms around me.  "I have to thank you.  You've made me see things in life that I didn't notice till I met you.  Your kind heart can brighten even the darkest of times," Dad replied.  I was touched.

Colin began getting breakfast ready.  He made cinnamon rolls, a breakfast casserole, and fruit salad. "This is delicious," I exclaimed taking a bite of a cinnamon roll. "Thank you," Colin smiled.  We ate our breakfast and got ready for the day.  I'm not sure what we'll be doing later in the day so I wore a red sweater and dark jeans. I heard a knock on the door. Colin was nowhere to be found so I got it. Ryan, Greg, and Jeff were outside. "Merry Christmas," they said. "Merry Christmas! Come on in," I replied.  As soon as Jeff was inside, he picked me up and spun me in the air. I laughed as Ryan and Greg were prepared to catch me if Jeff dropped me. Some things never change. Jeff carefully set me down and I hugged them. Chip, Robin, Drew, Wayne, and Jonathan arrived. Everyone hugged. "Lunch is ready," Colin called from the kitchen. We got seated at the table. I sat between Colin and Robin. We are turkey, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberries, and a brownie cheesecake for dessert. Everything was delicious. Dad is such a good cook.

It was time to open presents.  We sat around the tree. "Open mine first," Jeff shouted. "Alright," I laughed ripping off the wrapping paper. It was a set of holiday edition bath and body works shower gels and a Charming Charlie gift card. "Thank you so much Jeff," I said hugging him. I handed him the present I got for him. Jeff opened it and smiled. "Thank you so much for the camera and yoga mat! Mine was getting pretty beat up," he stated.  Ryan handed me his present.  I opened it carefully.  It was a scrapbook filled with pictures of me and the guys.  I smiled as I looked through the first few pages.  "This is beautiful.  Thank you so much Ryan," I exclaimed hugging him.  "You're more than welcome.  Pat helped me put it together," Ryan said.  I made a mental note to thank Pat the next time I see her.  I received a really nice pair of headphones from Wayne and a black leather jacket from Jonathan.  I bought both of them video games since they're really into that type of thing.  Greg got me a poetry book and some classic novels like Alice in Wonderland. I got him a few jazz records and history books.  Robin gave me tickets to see Aladdin and the Lion King on Broadway. I was so excited. I love those shows. I got Robin a really nice fan-made portrait of all of his roles combined.  Chip gave me a genuine leather cowboy hat and bracelet.  I gave him a new acoustic guitar since his got damaged.  "I have a present for you, but we have to take a quick car ride to get it," Drew explained.  I was puzzled about what it could be.  We decided to take two cars.  I climbed in Colin's car with Chip, Jeff, and Ryan.  Jeff put his hands over my eyes.  "You're not allowed to open your eyes till I say so," he told me.

We arrived at the mystery location in about ten minutes.  My eyes were still closed.  Someone unbuckled my seatbelt, moved me out of my seat, and carried me somewhere.  I was put on the ground.  "You can open your eyes now," Drew told me.  I opened my eyes.  We were at a place with fields and a forest in the distance. I saw a sign that said Sunset Farm. There was a beautiful chestnut gelding with a white star on his forehead in the paddock in front of us. He looked exactly like Rocky. "Is he really Rocky?" I asked Drew. "It sure is," he answered. "That's incredible! They wouldn't sell him to me when I tried to buy him a few years ago. Thank you so much," I exclaimed hugging Drew. "My pleasure Jennifer," he replied smiling.  I ran up to the fence and whistled.  Rocky galloped up to me. "Hey boy! I'm so glad I'll be able to see you every day now," I told him petting his muzzle. Drew explained the terms of the boarding agreement and insisted on paying for it.

We took a look around the stable.  I found Rocky's stall, grooming kit, and tack.  "When did he get here?" I asked Drew.  "Three days ago," he answered.  "He should probably be ridden at least a half hour," I stated.  I caught Rocky in the paddock and brought him inside to be groomed and tacked up.  He was ready to go in a few minutes.  I put on my helmet and the guys followed us out to the riding ring.  I mounted Rocky in a swift movement.  It felt like old times.  I warned him up and pretty soon we were cantering in the ring.  "Does anyone want a ride?" I asked slowing Rocky down.  I ended up leading Chip, Jeff, and Colin as they rode Rocky.  They had a lot of fun.  I cleaned up Rocky and got him settled into his stall before driving home.  Greg lives only five minutes from the barn so I'll probably be seeing him a lot more often.

The rest of the day flew by.  All of us ate Christmas dinner together and watched It's a Wonderful Life.  Everyone started leaving around nine o'clock.  I ran upstairs to take a shower when everyone was gone.  I finished making some hot chocolate as Colin walked downstairs.  "What a busy day," Colin yawned.  "It was busy, but it was perfect," I replied taking a sip of hot chocolate.  "I'm really glad you enjoyed it," he smiled.  "I couldn't be happier," I smiled back at him.  "You don't know how happy I am to hear that," Colin said.  "I have a good feeling about next year.  I should probably get to bed.  Goodnight dad.  I love you," I told Colin hugging him.  "Goodnight Jennifer.  I love you too," he replied embracing me. I went upstairs and fell asleep feeling loved.

Hey everyone! I hope you enjoyed this chapter and had a wonderful Christmas. I had a really nice time with my family. I could really use some help for my next chapter. I want it to take place on New Year's Eve going into New Year's Day, but I don't have any ideas beyond that. Any suggestions for the next chapter or later along in the story would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

Lots of love,
Jennifer
