"Wake up Jennifer," dad instructed shaking my shoulder. I rolled over to face him. "Do we have an episode taping today?" I asked. "Yes. It's one of the last few tapings for this season," Colin answered. I held my hand up for him to help me. He helped me up and I carefully got on his back. "Are you really that tired?" dad asked carrying me downstairs. "It's the time change that does it," I explained. "This has been dragging on for quite a long time. If you're still exhausted by the end of tomorrow, you're going to the doctor," Colin stated firmly. I pulled a fruit salad cup and water out of the fridge and made some cinnamon toast. It was refreshing, healthy, and delicious. I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and put on a lacy peach tank top with a matching cami and white capris. I brushed my hair and applied some lip gloss. I slipped my feet into flats, grabbed my bag, and we drove to the studio.
It was so hot outside that I was thankful that the studio is freezing cold. Wayne and Ryan greeted us as we walked inside. "Good morning Jennifer! How are you sweetheart?" Ryan asked pulling me in for a hug. "I'm pretty good thanks but tired," I answered hugging the gentle giant. "The cold will wake you up soon enough," Ryan replied. Drew ran up to us. "We want to announce that you're going to Julliard at the beginning of the show. Is that alright with you?" he inquired. "That's fine with me," I stated. I got my microphone clipped to my tank top and we started filming. "Welcome to Whose Line Is It Anyway, the show that's made up and the points don't matter. I am pleased to announce that our very own Jennifer Mochrie recently graduated high school with highest honors and that she will be attending Julliard with a full-ride scholarship for theatre. Congratulations Jennifer," Drew smiled. The audience applauded loudly. "Thanks Drew," I replied returning the smile. We played Helping Hands, Scenes from a Hat, Greatest Hits, and Sideways Scene. I got a nasty burn mark on my elbow from sliding around on the mat. "Sorry about that Jennifer," Drew said noticing the mark. "It's fine. I'll live," I laughed. I yawned. Playing Sideways Scenes is really exhausting. I went into my dressing room and shut the door. I laid down on my couch and took a half hour nap. I felt a little bit more refreshed. I read and answered my fan mail before opening Colin's dressing room door. "Hey dad, can I borrow the car? I want to head over to the real estate agency to put my parents' house on the market," I informed. "Sure," he answered tossing me the keys. "Give me a call if you need anything. We should go car shopping for you tomorrow." I hugged Wayne and Ryan goodbye and drove to the local real estate agency.
I walked through the front glass door. "Hello. May I help you?" the receptionist questioned. "I would like to see an agent about selling a house I inherited," I answered. "Come with me. I believe there is an agent available at this time," she informed. The receptionist led me to an agent's office. "Are you available at this time Amy? I have someone wanting to sell a house they inherited," she stated opening the door to the office. "I am. Send them in," the agent instructed. I walked into the office. "Hi I'm Amy Wentworth. What's your name?" Amy asked. "Jennifer Mochrie," I answered. "It's an honor to meet you. I love watching you on Whose Line Is It Anyway," she said. "Thank you," I exclaimed. "Do you have the will papers?" Amy inquired. "I do," I answered reaching into my folder and handing them to her. She scanned them carefully. "I'm assuming you saw a lawyer," Amy stated. "Yes. I confirmed that I have the authorization to sell the house and that the taxes have been taken care of for this season," I informed. "Awesome! Can I stop by the house in an hour to preview the house?" Amy questioned. "Of course. I'll just do some straightening up before you arrive," I replied. I left the office and drove to my old house.
A chill came over me as I pulled up to the house. I got out of the car and walked towards the front door. I was shaking. I inserted the key into the door and opened it. The investigations were finished a long time ago so I didn't have to worry that I was tampering with evidence. Blood stains that once occupied the floors were removed. I swept glass off the floor and tidied up the rooms. Just as I was about to finish cleaning out the drawers, I came across a black suitcase behind the dresser in my parents' room. I slid it out and dusted it. I opened it carefully. There were hundreds of thousand dollar bills. My jaw dropped. "I'll have to use this for something really special," I thought to myself. I locked it up in the car trunk. Amy pulled into the driveway. I showed her inside and she examined the house. "This is a very nice house. Are you planning on leaving the appliances and furniture or taking them?" Amy asked. "I'm leaving everything," I answered quickly. "I believe the price should be set at $250,000. I'll put a sign out front and post it on our website," she informed. "Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you," I replied shaking her hand. Amy pushed the For Sale sign into the front yard and left right away. I forced myself to walk into my old bedroom. I stared at my closet. Memories hiding inside with the door shut when my parents were enraged. I slid to the floor shaking as tears streamed down my face. This house haunts me. I collected my teddy bear, horse, and dog stuffed animals and sprinted out of the house locking the door behind me. I started the car and drove home.
When I walked into the house, it was quiet. "Dad! I'm home," I shouted. I didn't get a response. I searched the house frantically. There was no sign of him anywhere. I felt so afraid. "I want my daddy," I cried. A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. I ran downstairs not bothering to wipe the tears from my face. I braced myself for whoever was there and whipped the door open. Ryan stood outside. His expression transformed from happy to concerned. "You okay Jennifer?" he asked. "Do you know where Colin is?" I demanded. "That's why he asked me to come over here. Colin got a sudden request to do a few interviews in Canada and parts of the East Coast so he'll be gone for a little over a week. I offered to have you stay with me while he's gone so you wouldn't be here all by yourself. Pack enough stuff for the week and we can talk later," Ryan answered with a small smile. I went upstairs. I felt embarrassed for showing how weak I am. I retrieved a suitcase from my closet and packed some tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, capris, undergarments, shoes, and bathroom supplies. Ryan loaded it into the trunk and we drove to his house.
He showed me upstairs to the guest room. It was a large room with blue tones. I set my suitcase down and followed Ryan downstairs. "Did you have lunch yet?" he asked. "No but I'm really not that hungry," I answered. "You have to eat something. Let's just have sandwiches with some fruit and we can have something more later if you feel up to it," Ryan persisted. I managed to eat the lunch despite my stomach's protests. I moved to the living room while Ryan made some tea. It was ready in a few minutes. He joined me on the couch. "Would you please tell me why you were so upset earlier?" Ryan asked putting his arm around me. "Well, I was worried that something happened to Colin because he wasn't home and he didn't tell me that he was going anywhere after the taping," I began. "Why did you think something bad would happen to him?" he inquired. "Because I visited my old house. I've put it on the market. I can't stand it. Too many horrible things happened there. It's driving me crazy. I can barely sleep," I sobbed into Ryan's chest. "I'm so sorry. You have been acting a little different than normal. Does Colin know about it?" he asked softly wrapping me into a hug. "The only thing he knows is that I'm tired a lot. I've been using the time zone excuse for a few days but he's not buying it anymore. He said if I'm still tired by the end of tomorrow that I have to go to the doctor, but he's not here so I don't have to worry about that for awhile," I informed. "I appreciate that you told me about this, but Colin's your dad. You can trust him. He loves you as much as all of us do. I won't tell on you but please try to open up to him about it," Ryan encouraged. "I'll try," I sighed. "That's my girl. Now let's watch a movie," he grinned.
We watched a few comedies. They made me forget all that had happened earlier in the day. Ryan cooked up some delicious barbeque ribs, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. I took a shower and changed into my pajamas. I brushed my hair and styled it with my relaxing gel. I brushed my teeth and walked into my room. I searched my suitcase. I found my bottle of sleeping pills and snuck downstairs with them. I got a glass of water and popped two pills into my mouth. I washed them down with water. Out the corner of my eye, I saw Ryan. I felt his eyes burning through me. I sniffled and sunk to the floor crying. He walked over to me and pulled me into his lap. "Do they help?" Ryan whispered. "A little. I'm sorry," I sobbed. "You're alright," he soothed. My eyes fluttered and I fell asleep.
Ryan's POV
Thoughts raced through my head. I knew that she wasn't out of the woods yet because of what her parents have done to her but I didn't know that she has nightmares and needs sleeping pills to sleep at all. I feel so bad for her that she thinks she has to hide her battles from us. I lifted Jennifer up and carried her to the guestroom. She felt so light. I'm worried about her. I laid her down on the bed and covered her with the bedspread. I smoothed the hair out of her face and gave a goodnight kiss. I shut the door and got ready for bed. I don't want to tell anyone what's going on against Jennifer's will but I'm also worried that she won't get help. "I guess we'll take this one day at a time," I thought before falling asleep.
