Sunday
Cole quickly combed his messy hair and brushed his teeth. Church would start at 9:15. He put on his nice crest polo shirt and pants and ran down the stairs and started to eat his already soggy cornflakes.
At this time, Summer was already getting her shoes on when suddenly, out of the blue, Amber jumped out from behind her and said "BOOH!"
"Amber!... I almost had to start tying this stupid shoe all over again," Summer said, trying to stay calm.
"Sorry." Amber giggled. "Oh, by the way, Dad wanted me to tell you that you should be out the door by now."
Summer had taken at least 10 minutes in the washroom making her hair look good.
"I'll be right there," Summer said.
"Ok," Amber said walking out the door. She then sprinted to the car.
Cole grabbed his sling bag and made a dash for the door. "Coming Dad!" He shouted.
=====
"My hair is so messed up!" Cole said when he looked at a mirror in the lobby of the church.
"Sweetie, I asked you if you wanted me to help you gel it this morning," Mrs. Pheonixson said.
"Nah, I'm fine," Cole muttered as they walked into the auditorium.
"Hey, Cole. Dan is coming back home tonight. He's staying for Christmas," Dad told him.
"Really?! Yes!" Cole exclaimed. "I can't wait."
"Summer, get in the car!" Amber screeched. "How long does it take to get ready?!" Amber jumped out of the car and started jumping up and down. "Ooh, I'm Summer and I spend one million hours a day curling my hair and doing my makeup and painting my nails. Ooh, I'm so beautiful," Amber teased, imitating Summer.
"I'm coming!" Summer rushed out of the house, shoes untied and hair in a ruffled mess. "By the way, this is all natural beauty, Amber." Summer shoved her as Amber jumped into the car. "Move it, baby butt."
Amber did a raspberry blow on her arm.
"Gosh, you're so immature, Amber."
"Yeah, well I'm only eight, so, ha!" Amber yelled at her sister.
Cole and his family went into the auditorium, the worship had already started. "Quickly, Cole," his Dad whispered to him. They sat down on the left side of the auditorium.
"Ok, all the children and youth can go to their designated rooms," the speaker blared.
"See ya later Mom and Dad," Cole said. He got out of his seat and started walking towards the stairs.
"Cole!" came a voice behind him. It was Brett. The two of them chatted as they ran down the stairs to the youth room.
The youth in their church contained kids from 11 to 18 years old. It was a big age gap, but it was really fun. Cole sat next to his church friends, Logan and Liam, along with Brett. Brett was his church friend, but also his good school friend. His only friend who goes to both his school and his church. Logan was his friend who went to a pretty advanced school. She was the intelligent and academically talented one. Liam was the super quiet one who didn't talk a lot. Cole loved his church and was excited to come every Sunday to see his friends and learn about God to grow closer to him.
Summer jumped out of the car as soon as it had stopped. "Come on, guys. We're going to be late on our first day coming here!" she exclaimed.
"Chill." Amber stepped out of the car, gracefully.
