Friday Evening

"I'll try to ask him once he's more open," Summer said as they walked back down to the gym.

Wanting to get revenge on her friend, Cassidy yelled, "Hey, Cole!" and then ran to the food table.

"Hey, Summer," Cole said, walking towards her. Just then, the song for the couple dancing started. "You want to dance?" Cole asked slowly. Seeing that Summer was so uncomfortable, he said, "Or, we can just talk about random stuff." But to Cole's surprise, she said yes.

"Sure, I guess." Then Cole took Summer's hand and led her to the center of the gym.

Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran was playing in the background.

Summer's mom had given her some tips on dancing just in case. "Just follow him," Summer's mom had said.

"Just follow him," Summer whispered to herself.

"You ready?" Cole asked Summer softly.

"I hope," Summer said. "But, as long as I'm with you, I'll be fine."

Cole couldn't believe it. She actually really liked him. He started thinking about kissing her. He then looked straight into her eyes as they continued dancing together.

At first, Summer kept stepping on his feet. She could see that Cole was disturbed by this. He made this unsure face but kept on dancing. After a while, she got the hang of it. They were dancing in perfect sync.

In the background, he could see a group of girls taking a video of Summer and him. They were posting it on Instagram. He could see that Summer saw what was happening too.

"Cole..." Summer said feeling insecure about herself.

"Yeah, I see it too," Cole said.

"Do you think they are-"

"Posting it. Yes. Girls like that would always do that. They're probably jealous as well," he said, teasingly.

Summer started to feel sad. She felt like she wasn't Cole's only girl. Cole always had girls chasing after him. "What am I doing here?" Summer thought. "Cole's a jock and I'm just an ordinary girl."

Summer pulled away from Cole and quickly scurried out to the front lawn. "Summer..." Cole looked disappointed.

Summer looked back, but it only sent tears to her eyes.

"Summer?" Cole said again. Girls started to crowd around him.

"OMG Cole!" "Hey, Cole!" "Dance with me, Cole!" they all said in unison.

"Summer!" Cole yelled desperately. Summer ran out of the school and into the front gardens. Cole pushed through the crowd of girls and chased after Summer.

He burst through the doors. He saw Summer hugging herself, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"What are you doing, you could have just waited until the song ended," Cole mumbled.

"What's the point of all this?" Summer said. "You'll just dance with me and tell me how much you love me then you'll just break my heart." Her voice got louder. "That's what love is!" she screamed.

"Summer." Cole paused. "I really like you," he said.

"That's what you say for one school dance. Then you'll find someone more popular, more beautiful, and more... everything!"

"You just expect that you can run away from me," Cole said, determined to get his girl back. "I really do like you. I've felt this pull towards you ever since you arrived at our school."
