Friday
At 7:40, Cole put on his helmet and got on his bike. School was 8 blocks away from home. Not wanting to be late, Cole sped up. On the way there, he passed by Summer's family car, driving on the road. Wanting to be very cheeky, Cole slowed down and rode beside the car.
"Who's that?" Amber blurted.
"Huh, what, who, where. What?!" Summer was confused. She usually gets like this during the car ride to school. Too tired to be chatty, or to even be aware of her surroundings.
"That person on the bike over there!" Amber pointed to Summer's side of the window.
"Oh, him." Summer saw Cole outside of her car on his bicycle. "Just some person from school I guess."
"Do you like him?" Amber asked curiously.
"Amber?! I think nothing of him!"
Cole could hear that part of the conversation. Feeling bad, he slowed down and let the car pass, along with his dreams. Looking out the window once again, Summer could no longer see Cole. She groaned, feeling guilty for what she had just said.
"Maybe he heard me..." Summer whispered to herself.
"Weirdo!" Amber shouted in Summer's ear. "You're talking to yourself." Amber started tapping her mom on the shoulder continuously. "Mom! Mom! Mom! Summer is talking to herself! It's so weird."
"Amber! I'm driving! Keep your hands to yourself," Mrs. Zaayer rebuked her daughter.
"My sister is so weird. Weird sister! Weird sister!" Amber started yelling.
"Amber quit it," Summer said.
After a while, they arrived at the drop-off point. Summer could see Cole putting his bike away. He was hanging his head as if something bad had happened on the way to school. He must have taken another route, or else he would've arrived later. Walking towards Cole, Summer pretended nothing had gone wrong.
"What happened?" Summer asked. "Why so sad?"
"Nothing." Cole quickened his pace and disappeared into the crowd.
Summer was immediately covered in guilt. She must've really hurt his feelings. Seeing Summer looking so miserable, Cassidy slowly walked up to Summer.
"Aw, man," Cassidy said. "What happened? Explanation?"
"It's nothing I'm fine, see." Summer gave Cassidy a fake smile.
"OMG! Summer, you are ok. I was so worried," Cassidy laughed.
Summer's face went back to miserable. "Good."
"Dude! I was being sarcastic! I'm your best friend. I know when something is wrong. Spill!"
Summer sighed. "But, I'm the worst person in the world, Cassie. Help me!"
"Ahh... come here, Sum." Giving her bestie a hug, "What happened."
"I-I-I..." Summer started crying. Cassidy and Summer then headed for the bathrooms.
"I-I hurt Cole's feelings," Summer said between sobs.
"How?"
"I said something horrible and he heard me."
"What did you say."
"I said that I thought nothing of him."
"OMG! What!"
"I know! I didn't mean it but..."
