Friday The Last Day of School Before Christmas Break
"Come on, Summer, you're taking so long," Cassidy moaned.
"Bleh. Blah. Blaah," Summer babied.
"Hi, Summer," Cole said as he leaned against the lockers. He was looking all cool and swag.
"You act so differently at home."
"I have a reputation to keep here." He kissed her cheek then ran off to his class.
"What was that?" Cassidy asked, disgusted. "Ooo... Summer has a boyfriend."
"I don't. Cole is not my boyfriend. He has a million other girls chasing him. Not. Me!"
"You obviously like him."
"No I don't, I don't even know why he did that."
"Yeah, say whatever you want to tell yourself." Cassidy rolled her eyes.
"Come on, we're going to be late."
Dring! Dring! Drong! Dring! Drong! Dring!
It was the last block of the day, Band. Summer sat on her chair in her section. She was about to pack up her clarinet when Mrs. Blackwell stopped them.
"Guys, I have things to tell you. Remain seated, please," Mrs. Blackwell said.
Summer rolled her eyes at Cassidy who was seated in her flute section. Mrs. Blackwell started blabbering about how they should do some practicing over the holiday. Summer turned around to see Cole looking cool and cute as always with his tenor sax. She tried to wave at him, but he was too busy goofing off with Brett, sitting way over in the trumpet section. Other girls tried to get Cole's attention as well.
"Now, have a good Christmas break everyone." Finally, Mrs. Blackwell released them.
After School, Summer saw Cole and Brett walking to the tuck shop. Cassidy was sitting on the bench, chatting with some other girls, so she didn't notice Summer. Summer strolled towards Cole.
"Hey, Cole." Summer poked Cole.
"Sup, Summer." Cole tossed his head back to get the hair off his eyeballs.
"Can I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure." Cole nodded.
"Alone?" Summer motioned to Brett.
"Why?"
Summer rolled her eyes and pulled Cole away from Brett.
"So, what do you want to talk about?"
"Hmm..." Summer could see that Brett was still looking at them. Summer took Cole's hand and pulled him towards the janitor's closet. She slammed the door behind them.
"Oh. This must be a really private talk then," Cole laughed.
"This isn't funny!" Summer screamed.
"Ok. Jeez. So what is it?" Cole asked.
"You were trying to embarrass me back there." Summer was almost in tears.
"No, not at all," Cole said soothingly.
"You. Were."
"Look. I wanted to kiss you, what's wrong with that? I knew it would embarrass you though, so I just kissed you on the cheek. I'm sorry. And I'm sorry for everything. It's the last day and I'm not going to be able to see you for weeks. I j-just knew I was going to miss you. I wanted to do something so you could see that I guess. But I'm sorry for everything. I should've never made a move and I'm sorry. Look, we can just forget about everything." Cole turned around to leave.
"Cole! No! We've been through too much together." Summer put her hands on Cole's shoulders and turned him around. She looked him in the eyes and their faces were no more than an inch away from each other. "I am going to miss you. So much. And... I know I probably can't be your girlfriend, but, my parents can't find out and... I still want to be your girlfriend. I really want to be."
"Just ask your parents for me, ok? It would be better for both of us."
"No. I can't. Or I may not be able to be with you. I'll be your girlfriend though. I really want to be. Is that ok?"
"Ok then..." Cole said desperately.
Summer smiled.
"I'm going to miss you, Summer."
"Me too." Summer started to pull away, but Cole rested his hands on her cheeks and kissed her. They slowly pulled away. Summer blushed and hugged Cole before opening the janitor's closet door.
Then they parted and left the school, ready for Christmas break
