Monday After School
"Sum!" Cassidy ran up to Summer. "I have your gift."
"Seriously. You didn't need to," Summer complained.
"But... I did." Cassidy handed Summer a pink parcel. "Open it later. Cuz I gotta rush back home. We're having a family dinner. It's my mom's b-day."
"Tell her happy b-day!" Summer called as Cassidy ran down the hall. Summer strolled along the hallway to the main courtyard. Cole was leaning against a tree, looking like he was waiting for someone. As soon as he saw Summer he turned his eyes away from the girls on the other side of the courtyard.
Summer walked up to him. "Who are you waiting for?"
"I'm waiting for you. What took you so long?"
"Oh, just talking to Cassidy."
Cole ran his hand into his hair uncomfortably. "I got you your present," he said, taking a carefully wrapped black parcel and handing it to Summer. "I'm not sure if you'll like it..." Summer squished the parcel.
"It's soft!" She unwrapped the present. "It's a red beanie. I love it so much, thanks!" Summer squealed like a pig. Some students turned to stare at her and then continued on with their lives.
"Would you like me to bike with you home?" Cole offered and chuckled a little.
"Thanks, I could use some company." Summer smiled. After they had biked a few blocks away from school, they stopped biking and walked. Then, they started holding hands. When they got to Summer's house, she hugged him before she rang the doorbell. Summer's mom opened the door.
"Oh, hi, Cole, how nice of you to stop by," Mrs. Zaayer whispered after seeing Summer's hand intertwined with Cole's. Cole flashed Summer's mom his perfect smile. Summer walked into the house and turned around.
"Bye, Cole." She smiled and slowly closed the door.
