Friday After School

Summer slammed her locker and screamed. Derek was standing next to her locker trying to look cool.

"So, babe, wanna go hang together?" Derek wiggled his eyebrows.

"No, and don't call me babe ever again. Now go!"

"But, babe..."

"GO AWAY!" Summer growled at Derek. Derek scowled at Summer and left.

After Derek had left, Cole appeared and was standing next to her locker waiting. Brett stood with Cassidy next to Summer's locker on the other side.

"What are you people doing here?!" Even though she was angry, she pulled Cole into a fierce hug. There was only a trickle of people in hallways. Cassidy and Brett let out a little laugh. Summer and Cole's faces turned bright red.

"Heh," Cole said uncomfortably.

"Hey, what are you kids doing here? Get out!" one of the teachers yelled down the hall.

"Sorry, sir. Come on, Summer." Cole took hold of Summer's wrist and pulled her out of the school building with Cassidy and Brett trailing behind.

"So, what are you guys doing? Trying to spy on us?" Cole asked.

"Umm, n-no, not at all," Cassidy stammered. Brett just stood there awkwardly.

"You guz, better not be," Summer said, putting her hands on her hips. Cole crossed his arms.

"Really?!" Cole uncrossed his arms and threw them up in the air in exasperation.

"If you guys admit that you're going out on a date together." Brett shrugged.

"Wha?" Cole and Summer said in unison.

"Fine. Umm. I'm taking Summer out. Done. Kay, guys. Leave us alone." Cole looked at Summer.

"Yeah, we're going on a date." Summer used air quotes.

Brett and Cassidy slowly walked away and stole looks back at Summer and Cole.

SUMMER: i'm coming home a little later than usual

AMBER: Y?

SUMMER: C ya

AMBER: what r u doin?

AMBER: is it with that dood? WOW...

SUMMER: ugh...

AMBER: gonna call you, so i can hear you stammer. Haha

SUMMER: ugh

Cole's phone rang. "Heh, random person. Lemme see." Cole took his phone out of his back pocket.

"Hai."

"How do you have my phone number, Amber?"

"I went into Summer's room and found your number. Can't believe she has it right on her desk."

"Wha?!" Cole looked at Summer again. Summer raised her eyebrows and just shrugged.

"So, anything special? What are you guys doing now?"

"Um, none of your beeswax."

"Can you pass the phone to Summer? I need to talk to her."

"Kay?!"

Cole passed his phone to Summer. Their hands brushed against each other. Summer blushed.

"So..." Amber started.

"Stop it, Amber!" Summer disconnected the phone call and handed the phone back to Cole.

"Thanks..." Cole mumbled and gave Summer a weary smile.

"Why did I say yes to this?" Summer motioned towards Cole.

"What?! Your sister!" Cole's body sagged.

"It's not that I don't wanna spend time with you, it's just that I thought nobody would interrupt!" Summer sighed.

"Sorry, it's all my fault." Cole looked down at the floor as he walked.

Summer subconsciously took Cole's hand. Cole's forest green eyes lit up and he looked alive again. Then he gave Summer another one of his weak smiles. They were too immersed in listening to the songs Cole had on his phone that they didn't hear giggling and the snapping of Cassidy's phone.
