After graduating middle school, Summer and Cole went to different high schools. They weren't the type of couple to break up and stay friends. They ended things for good.
=====
Summer strolled down the brick path towards the lecture hall, heading to her final class of the day. She finally felt at home at her university in Australia. Her freshman year of college had felt like a whole rollercoaster, moving to a new country for the first time. But her second year was going just as she had hoped and most importantly, she was happy with where she was in her life.
"Babe!" A tall, muscular girl with thick, dark hair, tucked in a yellow beanie, yelled across the park.
Summer ran towards the girl and embraced her in a warm hug. "Nik! I've missed you so much." Summer started sobbing quietly against her girlfriend's baseball tee.
"Are you ok?" Nikki looked Summer over in a worried look.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just missed you." Summer wrapped her arms around Nikki's nape, playing with the little hairs growing on the back of her neck.
They kissed passionately with Nikki's hand on the side of Summer's cheek.
"Ready to go to Psychology?" Nikki asked once they broke out of their kiss.
"Yes! Let's go!" Summer and Nikki walked hand in hand towards the large, stone building. Summer had finally found the special someone who understood, cared, and listened to her - the way Cole never did. She had finally found joy in her life.
=====
Cole had to admit, he missed being the jock. But once you're a freshie at college, no one gives you a second glance. However, he had made some close, new friends in New York. He was studying Political Science, which he suddenly had an interest in during High School. Cole was single, but he didn't feel the need to be in a relationship. This also might've had something to do with his sudden acne outbreak. However, he was coping well.
"Yo, Cole!" James jogged over to him and lightly slapped him on the back. "Nice job on the quiz. I heard you got full marks."
"Haha, thanks. Well, I studied hard for it." Cole was glad to have James. His old buddy from Middle School and him had just happened to apply to the same university. It was always nice to see a familiar face around the school grounds with all the new around him. Even though he was a sophomore now, he was still trying to get the hang of things in a new state.
The two friends walked over to his group of friends sprawled out on the warm grass eating their lunches.
"Hey, Cole, James," one of them said.
"Sup." Cole sat down next to them and munched on his sandwich.
He smiled. He felt so lucky to have friends like them, and to be finally getting his life together. He had learned from his experiences, and hadn't thought much of Summer after he left Middle School. He was glad to have moved on.
They never ever met ever again, forever and ever, until infinity and beyond.
