Next Wednesday

Cole and Summer were in French class and they still hadn't talked to each other.

"Today, we have a project, today," Madame Beaudouin said.

"Ugh... another project," Alexine grumbled.

"I will assign partners, today," Madame Beaudouin said.

"Again... Ugh..." Alexine grumbled. She flipped her hair and popped her bubblegum.

"Alexine... today is not a good day to get detention, today. Bubble Gum is banned in school, today. Alexine, today, you get detention."

"Whatever." Alexine popped another bubble.

"Now let's see about the partners. Today, Mile is with Alexine, and today, Summer with Cole."

Summer rolled her eyes at Cole. Cole ran a hand through his hair. "Why!" Summer cried.

Everyone moved to sit next to their partners.

"Hey, poop bag," Summer greeted Cole.

"Hey, barf up," Cole returned the sneer.

"Oh..." Summer glared.

"Now... today, you have to draw a nice picture of your partner. Today, you will have to describe them, all in French. Today, I will give you the rubric and paper. Today, you might have to go outside of school to finish the project. Today, you will have a week to do it. Today, it is due next Thursday," Madame Beaudouin explained.

"When are you free?" Cole asked Summer seriously.

Summer raised her hand. "How do you say cute in French?"

"Today, I think that cute in French means-"

"How do you say hot?" Cole interrupted.

They both erupted with laughter.

"Today, you have to be serious and start working on your project. Today, if you have questions, ask me," Madame Beaudouin ended her speech and let the class start their projects.

"You aren't that bad actually, except that you tripped me," Cole stated.

"Shut up," Summer said. "Today, we have to get. To. Work." Summer imitated Madame Beaudouin.

"You don't think we work well together?"

"You're salty all the time and I'm spicy. Like hot pepper," Summer said.

"You. Hot?" Cole laughed.

"Shut up."

"When are you free?"

"This Saturday?" Summer asked.

"At least I don't have to see you today after school."

"I'm glad too."

"Today, class! Today." Madame Beaudouin tried to get the class' attention.

"You know what, on Friday?" Cole asked Summer.

"Don't you dare mention it," she snapped.

"I know what song you sang."

"Yeah right."

"My favorite verse is... walking on the beach, just waiting for the sun to set. Drawing hearts in the sand with your hands wrapped round my hips. From Picture This."

"Hey. I like that verse too." Summer smiled.

"So we're on for Saturday?" Cole asked.

"You bet."

"Today, class!" Madame Beaudouin shouted. Summer and Cole finally turned to listen.

=====

After school, Summer ran to Cassidy's locker. "You know what!" she screamed.

Cassidy slammed her locker shut in annoyance. "What, Summer?"

"Cole and I made up. We are not fighting anymore!"

"Good. Did he call you hot?"

"Sorta." Summer shrugged.

"I knew it. You guys were meant to be."

"Sure. Whatever, Cassie."

"Cole makes Summer hotter than ever."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing, just talking to myself," Cassidy giggled.

Summer and Cassidy walked past Cole's locker.

"Ooh, he pinned a picture of you on his locker door," Cassidy exclaimed in a loud voice.

Cole was talking to Brett. "At least she isn't as mean anymore," Cole told Brett. They sighed, relieved.

"Hi, Cole," Summer chirped.

"Oh, sup," Cole replied.

"I wanna talk to you."

Cole looked around. "Ok..."

"Later, meet you outside." Summer waved and then walked off with Cassidy.

Summer stood by the vending machine, waiting for Cole. As soon as Cole walked up to Summer, he blurted a question out loud. "Can you help me talk to Avery about Friday? Tell her I'm sorry."

Summer looked up. "Sure... But, sorry about what?" she asked hesitantly.

"I flirted with her and I knew it was wrong, but I still did it. I dragged her into all this. I had no idea she was your cousin, Summer. I also owe you an apology."

"Thank you, Cole," Summer smiled.

Cole and Summer started walking down the street.

"And... I can't keep this from you. I have to tell you this."

"Yea...?" Summer was really confused.

"Avery kissed me."

"What the-!" Summer burst out loud. She started to fume up. You could see her fists clench up and her face turn pink.

"She did it. I didn't want her to. It was only on the cheek though."

"You didn't tell her you had a girlfriend!?"

"I. Did!" Cole exclaimed.

"What in the world." Summer shook her head. "Avery... Avery? Avery?! Why on earth would she try to make a guy cheat?"

"So what did you want to tell me?" Cole asked.

"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for being a jerk."

"It's ok. You are hot, you know."

Summer stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. "Really?!"

"Yeah."

They both laughed.
