Friday
"Yay... Another day of school," Summer said sarcastically as she got out of bed on Friday morning.
When Summer finished her delicious breakfast meal of bacon and eggs, she got ready for school. She had to wait for Amber so she sat on the sofa in the living room and checked Instagram. Summer first looked at recent Instagram stories from the people she followed. Avery Naomi Zaayer, or @avery_nomi on Instagram, posted a poll on her Instagram story. She didn't know if she should wear her black leggings or her grey and blue sweatpants to school. "Typical Avery," Summer thought. But she chose the sweatpants.
Summer was looking through the new posts from the people she followed. She noticed some other random pictures and then saw Cole's Instagram post. It was a picture of him in a tank top, posing on his driveway last night. She was surprised that she hadn't seen that yesterday. Amber finally darted down the stairs.
"Eww. Why do you like that picture? Are you in love with him?"
"Amber, no. I only kinda like the picture cuz he looks kinda cute."
"Okay... Can we ride our bikes to school today?" she asked excitedly. Summer sighed.
"Fine, let me text someone first."
"Who?"
"Someone. Get off my case, gurl." Summer's fingers were already flying across her phone screen while Amber sulked.
SUMMER: Hey, r u awake?
SUMMER: we're riding bikes. Wanna stop by?
COLE: sure, putting on bike gear 🚴🚴♀️
COLE: coming over now.
"Are you done?" Amber asked, peeking over Summer's shoulders. "Are you texting that ugly guy?"
"No, what are you talking about?!" Summer shrieked and frantically shoved her phone back into her pocket and turned as red as a tomato.
They went over to the garage door. Amber took her pink and purple bike over to the sidewalk. Summer rolled her blue bike to the sidewalk too. She saw Cole in the distance, riding on his own red and blue bike.
"Have fun with your boyfriend!" Amber yelled.
Summer turned around to where Amber was before. But she had already raced off.
"Hey, Summer," Cole said, flicking his sweaty hair away from his eyes.
"Sup."
"What happened to your sister? I heard her yelling something."
"Nothing."
Summer put on her earbuds. Cole already had his wireless headphones on. They rode side by side. He was singing love songs. After a few minutes, they arrived at the school.
"Thanks for singing those songs to me," Summer said, blushing.
"Um... actually it wasn't... Yeah, it was for you. Welcome," Cole said uncomfortably. They walked into the cold school and strolled to their lockers.
They had an average day at school in their regular classes. Then, it was time for the last block of the day, band elective. Summer and Cassidy walked down to the band room together.
"You're late," Derek the bully told Summer.
"No, I'm not, class starts in two minutes, get a watch." Summer was expecting Derek to go away, but he just stood there. Summer got her clarinet out of her band locker and stood up. Derek was in the way.
"Get out of my face," she told him.
"No way." Just then Brett and Cole walked into the hallway. Cole looked up from his kindle and walked up behind Derek.
"You better, before I punch you in the face," he whispered into Derek's ear.
"Fine, you can have the girl." Derek stormed off.
"Hey, Summer, why did you let that dork bug you?" Cole said teasingly.
"I try not to let him. But he does," Summer said, rolling her eyes at Derek.
"Try to ignore him."
"KK."
"Thanks, for the girl, Derek," Cole told the dork.
They walked into the band room and sat in their seats. "Alright class, today you will continue your project on spring," Mrs. Blackwell told her students. "Cole's group can head out to room G10." Cole, Summer, Cassidy, and Brett walked into room G10.
"Thanks for helping me out with Derek," Summer said.
"No problem. That's what I'm here for," Cole said.
"Darn! I forgot my computer," Cassidy rumbled and threw her school bag on the chair. "I'll go to my locker and get it." She leaped out of the room.
"Ugg... My music is with Mrs. B. I'll go get it." Brett ran out of the room after Cassidy.
Summer turned to Cole. "I'm serious you know? Derek always bugs me. What's his deal?" Summer tried to give Cole a friendly slap, but he pulled away just in time.
"Miss me, miss me, now you gotta kiss me," Cole said.
Unexpectedly, Summer took Cole's hand and pulled him towards her. Then wrapped her arms around his neck and started kissing him passionately. Cole relaxed and put his arms around Summer's waist. They passionately kissed for what seemed minutes.
Just then Brett and Cassidy walked into the room. They immediately saw Cole and Summer. Cassidy gasped. Brett just chuckled softly and shook his head. Summer saw Cassidy and Brett out of the corner of her eye then quickly pulled away from Cole. Cole gave a scared squeak.
"OMG! Sole is a real thing?!" Cassidy shouted.
"Dude, don't be so loud," Summer told her friend sternly.
"My, my, my... It's real," Brett said unbelievably.
Cassidy burst out laughing. Cole stood, leaning against the wall farthest away from Summer.
"Cassidy!" Summer said as her face flushed with embarrassment. "This is serious."
"Uh huh," Cassidy giggled.
"Listen here, little miss," Summer began. "This is a serious thing you just saw. And you weren't supposed to see it. So... you have to keep a deep secret... Raise your right hand."
Cassidy raised her right hand.
"Place it on this Bible... I mean..." Summer looked around but only saw her band music book. "This music book."
Cassidy had her other hand on the music book.
Cole laughed softly.
"Now... swear to never tell or speak of this to anyone. Ever!" Summer screamed.
"All right, I swear," Cassidy said through giggles.
Everyone could literally see steam coming from Summer's ears.
"It's ok, Summer. Don't need to be so mean to your best friend," Cole said, finally speaking up.
"What do you mean, of course, this is a big deal!" she yelled in front of his face.
"Fine. Brett, I'm sorry, apparently my girlfriend is frustrated, you have to swear too."
Brett rolled his eyes in annoyance. "I swear."
"Good." Cole punched Brett in the shoulder and then spun him around.
"It's been five minutes, we better get started," Summer stated to the others.
"Ok," they all said in unison. The group finally got to work on their spring project.
