Monday After School
Cassidy quickly stuffed her homework into her already bulging bag.
Summer stood next to her, looking all bored. "If Cole asks to walk home with us, just say yes, cuz Brett has something after school and I don't really want him to be lonely?"
"Yep," Cassidy replied
Just then Cole walked by. "Hey... Summer, just wanted to ask, wanna walk home together?" Cole asked.
"Sure," Summer said casually.
"Thanks, cuz I need some company and I just thought... I'll tell you guys later."
Cassidy finally finished stuffing all her binders into her bag and they started to walk out of the school.
"I was just thinking that I could walk you guys home and come back to school for the game. I bet you guys have stuff to do so I didn't really tell you. Plus, you've been getting all mad and everything." Cole gestured towards Summer.
As they were nearing Summer's house, Summer broke the news to Cole. "Cassidy's coming over to hang."
"Oh. Yeah, that's fine. I mean I booked a table for two at this restaurant, but if you wanna spend time with Cassidy, it's fine. Totally cool. I'll just cancel it," Cole stammered.
"Oh," Summer said, instantly feeling bad.
Cole took out his phone and called the restaurant.
"Hey, I just want to cancel the table for two at 6:40 under the name Cole Pheonixson. Thanks. Oh and I wanna book a table for four on Saturday under the same name. Thanks. Sorry for the inconvenience caused." Cole ended the call and looked at Cassidy.
"Are you guys free on Saturday?"
"Yeah," Summer and Cassidy said in unison.
"Wear your best clothes cuz we're gonna go on a double date! Cuz I thought we could all do something together," Cole said excitedly.
"You'd do that for us?" Summer said, surprised.
"Yeah. I gotta get to the game now, bye."
Cole turned around to go back to school and then stopped. He ran back and kissed Summer on the cheek and whispered, "Remember," into Summer's ear.
"Wow, that was a lot of news," Cassidy said, exasperated.
Summer just stared at Cole's running figure in shock and then touched her cheek.
"He kissed me." And then she instantly forgot that she was angry at Cole.
Cassidy lightened the mood by cracking a small, teasing joke. "Oooooo, your blushing!"
"Cassie, don't yell that out loud."
By that time, Cole's running figure was just barely noticeable on the glimmering sidewalk.
