I looked up at Kai. His hands were still around my waist. I wiggled out of his grip and looked at him.

I don't think he expected me to do what I did next. I wrapped my arms around him in a hug. I pulled away smiling at him.

"Sorry, it's just I thought you died. I left you a note. Did you see it? I'm sorry that I almost left you," I rambled on.

He looked at me confused and then laughed. "You aren't mad I just stopped you from leaving?" He asked.

I shook my head. "No. We can try again tomorrow."

He looked behind me and shook his head. "I'm afraid it might be a bit longer than that," he said.

I looked where he was looking. The ascendant was broke to pieces on the ground.

I sighed. "It's fine. We can fix it. Then we'll leave."

He nodded and walked over to the pile. He began picking up all the pieces and put them in his hand.

"Let's head back to the house. I got to put this in a ziplock bag."

I nodded and followed him out of the hole. We walked to the house. Once we got there, I grabbed him a bag.

He put the pieces into the bag and zipped it up. "I'll work on it tomorrow, but right now I'm off to bed," Kai said.

I smiled and nodded. "Okay, sleep well."

He looked at me and smiled a bit. "Uh, yeah...you too."

He turned away from me and walked up the stairs. I smiled as I watched him. What a weird boy.

I soon got tired myself and headed up to my room. As I was walking, I passed by Kai's room. His door was open a bit.

I peaked in, seeing he was reading my note. The expression on his face was different, one I had never seen before.

I opened the door and walked in. He looked up at me and shook his head.

"How do you do it?" He asked.

"Do what?"

"Care. In this note, you cared about what happened to me. There is tear stains on the page. You cried, why?"

I shrugged. "Because I didn't want you to die. I like you."

"How? How can you like me?! I'm a sociopath, an abomination, I am the definition of broken!"

I sighed. "Well, our definitions of broken must be completely different. To me, if something is broken then it can be fixed."

Kai sighed. "You don't get it. I can't be fixed. I don't feel for things! I don't care about things, or people! I don't give a shit about a thing in the world, because I don't feel!"

I shook my head. "You must be lucky then! Feelings, they hurt like a bitch! And Kai Parker, everyone feels! You say you don't feel, well then feel this!"

I held out my hands toward him and watched as held his head in his hands. He screamed in pain.

I could feel my eyes go darker and darker. The magic I was doing wasn't good for me.

I dropped my hands and frowned. I felt tears go down my cheeks. I looked up at him and shook my head.

"I'm so sorry, Kai. I didn't mean to hurt you. Gosh, I'm so stupid."

He looked up at me, tears running down his cheeks from the pain. "What was that?"

I gulped and looked at the ground. He stood up and came closer to me. He tilted my head up with his forefinger.

"Was all that your feelings and memories?" He asked.

I looked into his eyes and nodded. He frowned and shook his head.

"No one should have to go through that. No one, especially not you."

I looked at him confused. What was happening? Did I cause this? Was I fixing him?

He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a tight hug. "I'm sorry for yelling at you. And don't apologize to me, I deserved all of that."

I grabbed ahold of his shirt and cried a bit. This nice version of Kai was making me cry even more.

"I can't be sad anymore. I can't, because when I do people get hurt," I said.

He pulled away from the hug and looked at me. His hands remained on my back.

"I'm sorry, Kylie." He looked down at my stomach, causing me to frown because he now knew. "I'm sorry for all you had to go through, but I promise from now on I'll be there."

I smiled at him. "What happened to not caring?" I asked.

He smirked. "Someone told me that everyone cares, so I'm deciding to listen to her."

I smiled and looked into his eyes. I began to feel myself stuck in them. It was like they were capturing me.

I felt his eyes flash to my lips, but I didn't mind because mine were doing the exact same. I had to stop it though.

I pulled away from him and smiled. "Goodnight, Kai. I'll see you in the morning."

I turned and walked out of his room, feeling Kai's eyes on me the whole time.

Maybe just maybe, the Kai Parker that everyone knew was changing to the Kai Parker deep down inside. Maybe being a key word.
