We drove past rows of houses, searching for the perfect one. Kai kept looking over at me, making me smile sheepishly.
I looked out my window and spotted a beautiful two story, family home. The outside was layered in stone and gray paneling. It had big dark wood doors, and huge bay windows. The front porch was just the right size with a hungover roof.
I brought the car to a stop and turned to Kai. He looked at the house and then back at me, a smiling tugging at his lips.
"Is this the one?" Kai asked.
I looked at it and shrugged. "We won't know till we look inside."
He smiled and put his hand on top of mine. "Maybe we found our place."
I pulled into the driveway and parked, turning to Kai as he called Damon. He clicked his phone off and turned to me.
"Damon will be here in a few minutes," Kai said.
I laughed and smiled at Kai. "What?" Kai asked.
"This is Damon's car. It might be a while," I told him.
He looked down and laughed as he shook his head. I just smiled at him, as I stared.
Damon soon showed up and walked up to my window. He tapped the glass and looked in at me.
I rolled the window down and he eyed me. "What are you doing in my car?" He asked.
I looked at Kai and then back at him. I couldn't keep a straight face. That's what happens to me under pressure.
"Sorry, Damon," I said.
He sighed and rolled his eyes. "Come on, let's go have a house tour."
Me and Kai got out, following Damon to the front door. Damon knocked hard on the door. We stood there, waiting for the door to open.
When it did, it was by a petite woman with a pixie haircut. "Hello? Do you need something?" The lady said, speaking with a sharp tone.
Damon grabbed ahold of her shoulders and looked into her eyes. "Tell us why you bought the house," Damon compelled her.
She nodded. "I bought it so my ex sister in law and her family couldn't."
Damon tilted his head. "What do you mean ex?"
"We divorced a few months ago because I cheated on him," she explained.
Damon turned to us and sighed. "I think this house is perfect."
I shook my head. "What if she has kids?"
Damon rolled his eyes and turned back around, releasing an unenthusiastic groan. "Do you have kids?"
She shook her head. "I can't have kids and I don't want them."
I looked at Kai and smiled. "Sounds good enough for me."
"Can you take us on a tour?" Damon asked.
The lady nodded. "Yeah, my pleasure."
She turned around and led us into the front room which was a living room. It was quite big. The whole house had a cozy, but slightly modern, theme.
She gave us a tour of the whole house. There was about 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
Once she was done, Damon looked at me and sighed. "Why can't you just stay living with me?"
I sighed and smiled at him. "I'll miss you too, Damon. You can come over whenever you want. I promise to invite you in right away."
Kai nodded. "You can all come over, if your nice."
Damon rolled his eyes and sighed. "Fine." He turned to the later. "Grab the house papers and sign them over to Kylie and Kai, or however that works."
The lady nodded and went to retrieve her paperwork. Turns out she needed a real estate agent also. Damon was quick to get one for us.
The papers were finally all signed. I stepped into the house and took a deep breath, filling my nostrils with the smell of a new home.
I turned to look at Damon, who was stood on the porch watching me. I smiled at him and turned to Kai. Kai nodded, making me turn back to Damon.
"Damon Salvatore, please come inside," I said.
Damon smirked and slowly stepped inside, one foot in front of the other. I giggled slightly at Damon's actions.
My hand intertwined with Kai, as I kissed his cheek. I kept admiring the walls of this place. It was what contained the home's cozy atmosphere.
"We should get a moving truck and remove the ugly and bring in the good looking," Damon said.
I nodded and turned to face the living room. Nothing was ugly in it. My main concerns were the bedrooms. One in particular.
Kai and I got back into Damon's car, but this time in the back. Damon said he was driving, and there was no changing his mind.
We pulled up into a local moving company and walked inside. A heavy set guy with a long ginger beard stood at the desk. He smiled at his, revealing lettuce stuck in his teeth from his sandwich.
"Hello, guy," Damon said, had emphasis on guy. "We need to rent a truck."
The guy laughed and looked at Damon, but realized Damon was serious. "We don't just rent trucks. You order them and we drive."
Damon shook his head. "I don't think so." He placed a hand on the guy's shoulder. "I'll need the keys to a truck, now."
The guy nodded and handed over a pair of keys, labeled with the truck number. Damon smiled. "We will return this soon enough."
We followed Damon into the garage and found the matching truck; number 6. Damon tossed Kai the keys and smiled.
"I'll take Kylie. We need a talk," Damon said.
Kai glanced at me, wondering if that was fine with me, and then turned back to Damon. "Just protect her."
I laughed and smiled at Kai's protectiveness. Damon laughed. "If anything, she'll be protecting me," Damon joked.
Kai laughed and nodded. "I'd be lying if I said you were wrong."
