Let my guard down with Chris, that's what Scott recommended. I trusted Chris, I didn't trust life or things that hurt the most in it. Hollywood was a whole different kind of life. It wasn't as easy as just trusting someone within that world. There are so many temptations within it and let's be honest, Chris Evans' reputation does precede him.
Even though this was one reason I remained guarded, since meeting him I hadn't seen one ounce of the man I had read about in the tabloids over the years. Not once had I heard him mention any women or see him going off with a different one each night when I was around him. There hadn't been anything like that online in years, especially since he has been involved with Marvel. Maybe one or two pictures but nothing like it used to be. The pictures of him at parties seemed few and far between now too. The fact that he seemed jealous of other guys in my life or around me was flattering, but also unbelievable.
So, what the hell, I will do what Scott says and attempt to let my guard down, just for the time I was here, that's where I would start. Both Calvin and Scott had suggested it, so why not? Chris hadn't given me any reason not to trust him so I was definitely being unfair. We all have our past and there isn't anything we can do to change it. His was just out in the public for everyone to see, he still didn't know much about mine at all.
Scott had gotten up and said he was going to go make some phone calls in his room and would be back in a bit. He patted my leg and whispered under his breath so only I could hear. "Go talk to him. He does this when he doesn't know how to act. You get him all flustered."
I know my eyes were as big as saucers. When Scott said things like that, it flustered me too. Still, I didn't believe him completely, but after he had stepped away, I made my way into the kitchen. It was right there beside the living room where we were sitting, I didn't have far to go. Dodger was eating and Chris was leaning his hip against the kitchen island taking sips from a beer, looking at his phone. As I walked up to him I shoved my phone in my back pocket and tried to break the ice, still not sure how it had gotten awkward.
"Everybody knows I'm here now. I think I freaked my parents out a little with my late notice."
Chris chuckled as he laid his phone on the island. Turning himself in my direction, he leaned down propping himself up on his elbows and forearms on the island counter. Looking up to me he spoke. "I completely understand. Trust me, ma likes me to check in every time I land in a new place."
I smiled at him as I took another step and rested my hands on the island as he spoke back up. "So, would you like something to drink or eat. Seriously, please make yourself at home."
Trying to lighten up the situation I grinned at him, reaching for his beer. My fingers grazed his when I took it, and just like always, it registered differently. With anyone else I probably wouldn't notice. But with this man, I didn't have to touch him, it was even when he was in the same vicinity as me that I could feel it. Boldly, I tried to stay in check and took a sip of his beer before handing it back.
Laughing at me, Chris sat it down and brought me closer by placing both hands on each side of my waist. I kept telling myself to relax and not be guarded. The way his eyes looked at me and the inhale of breath he took, made me feel like I was the only person in the world. He spoke softer than usual, probably because it was just the two of us and we were so close.
"So, what would you like to do tonight?"
"I'm fine with just hanging around here."
"Well, you're easy to have as a guest then. We could watch a movie..."
My eyes lit up and my mouth opened before he caught on and I felt his grip tighten on my waist accompanied by his laughter as he spoke a little louder. "...nope. Don't even try it. We won't be watching anything with me in it."
