County Fair

I hadn't been back home in quite a while, so I hadn't been to the fair in a really long time.  Still, people knew who I was because I grew up here and my parents and grandparents had also.  They sold their products every year at the fair, so people would come to stock back up until the next one.  My grandmother made her jams and jellies and other odds and ends too.  The size of the fair grounds had doubled since I had been gone.  There were more rides and games along with more tents since there were more vendors as well.

The first day of the fair has always been hectic, that's why we always bring everything the night before.  Chris and Scott seemed very excited to be a part of it so they were being shown how everything worked and the cash till and credit card machine.  We had a busy first half of the day, meaning all hands on deck, which also meant we hadn't been able to look around for ourselves yet.

Once there seemed to be a lull, I wandered just down the aisle, looking at the different things people were selling in this particular tent, but didn't realize I had gone as far as I had until I heard a woman's voice.  She talked especially fast.

"Hey Y/N, I haven't seen you in years.  How's it going living at the beach? I love watching your pictures on Instagram and your shop is so cute, and that guy......the one you opened it with, he's gorgeous. But don't get me started on gorgeous, I mean, you've always been surrounded by gorgeous, but Chris Evans? That's a whole new level..."

Finally, I was able to slow her down and get a few words in for myself. "Oh hey.  Umm, it's great.  I think we're finally at a place where we can leave it in the hands..." just as I was getting ready to talk about the shop and being able to leave it with employees for longer stretches, Chris walked up and placed his hand on the small of my back.  "Oh, well, his ears must have been burning, this is is my boyfriend, Chris.  Chris, this is Samantha."

They exchanged pleasantries and I asked him where Scott was.  "He's still helping your grandparents."

"We should probably get back over there too then."

"Oh, Y/N, just a heads up, I saw Nicky down by the games about an hour ago."

At the same time, Chris and I spoke, "what?"

Samantha looked back and forth between us.  "Uh, yeah.  He was with his sister, who by the way, is just as arrogant and annoying as ever.  I thought you may want to know though.  He comes back every year actually.  It was nice seeing you Y/N and it was very nice to meet you Chris." Just as she was leaving, she turned back around. "Oh, I wasn't going to ask, but why not? Can I get a picture with you? My kids and husband will never believe that Y/N was here, let alone that she brought her boyfriend, Captain America, back home." She handed me her phone and I snapped a quick picture of her and Chris. Samantha grabbed on around his waist a little too closely but it didn't bother me nearly as much as things like that used to.

We said our goodbyes and I turned to face Chris.  He put his arm around me as we walked back up to my family, but I also brought up how irritated I was now.  "Of course he comes back every year for the fair.  Why wouldn't he?  Makes me look pretty bad I guess."

"Who cares if he's here?  It doesn't make you look bad.  You've been building a business."

"Yeah, while my parents and grandparents could probaby have used my help."

"Don't question any of that.  I feel like they would have told you if they needed you.  They seem to have it all covered."

"I guess."

"Soooo, they told me to find you so we could look around and have some fun if we wanted.  Let's have a date."

"What about Scott?"
