Y/N hasn't really dated since she had a traumatic experience with a long term relationship early on in her life. Always keeping any possible matches at arms length. She moved with her best friend to the Outer Banks and opened up a coffee shop with...
***A little throwback to right before Chris and Scott arrived in Australia***
Calvin's family treated me like one of their own and liked teasing me a little about the fact that I was dating Captain America. I was joined at the hip to Calvin since I arrived, except for when I was able to talk to Chris on the phone. This meant that I went with my best friend every day he visited Grammy at the rehab facility. It would sometimes be multiple days in a row instead of every other day if it was during the week while other members of the family were working. That was what brought him to move back here from the house we shared at the beach. It was a good thing too because she would ask for things from home that she needed almost daily. We knew she just wanted visitors, and honestly who could blame her?
She had fallen and broken her leg and then got sick also so she was still gaining her strength and mobility through the rehab. It was going to be a long process due to how sick she did get while in the hospital from the surgery on her leg. The first day I went with him she thought I was there for a different reason.
She loved all her grandchildren, but she loved her Cal in a different way. She had all daughters and Calvin was not only her first grandbaby, but he was still the only grandson. She had come to the beach and stayed with us years ago when we first bought the coffee shop and house. She was always trying to convince me that Calvin and I belonged together. So much so that one night when we got home from work, she had a candle lit dinner prepared for us out on the dock. In order to surprise us and get us out there, she said we had been working too hard and needed to relax and catch our breath, enjoy our friendship for a bit during dinner.
She had gone through so much work I felt like we needed to indulge her for just one night but made Calvin promise to tell her that we were the best of friends and it wasn't going to change. I thought I had seen a bit of hurt in his eyes, but I had already proven I wasn't ready for anything more when we had tried early on in our friendship. There was no way I was going to let him think there could be anything between us if I wasn't 100% sure he wouldn't get hurt. It was probably more so to make sure I didn't get hurt again and deep down I knew that, but I couldn't lose him. I pretended not to see the change in his expression when I asked him to talk to her about it because I felt like I was hurting him either way.
We stayed out there for hours though, just talking and laughing. She was right. We did need a break from working, just to be ourselves and catch up with life, not worrying about a business. It made me realize even more how much I cherish him and never want to jeopardize what we have. His grandmother even took a picture without us knowing and later told me that Calvin had told her what I wanted him to. Even though she said she still could hope for more, she said she understood and wouldn't press the subject no matter how badly she wanted it. I could always count on her to tell me what she was thinking and never had to guess what she was feeling. It was one of her biggest personality traits.
She had captured a moment from that night on her phone when she was apparently watching us from inside the house.
