Chris was almost certain he would be done within the next few days so I packed up and headed back to my house. He would be doing the same as soon as he was done and staying for a week or so before we both headed to L.A. together. I did manage to catch Henry for a short video call with my grandfather between his filming schedule and time zone difference. Henry promised to do his best to get by there when he was on the East coast.
Rachel seemed happy to have me back, not just for work but also to have someone to hang out with, no matter for how long. She had done a great job of holding the fort down and everything seemed to still be running smoothly with her managing things. Since the business was holding its own in the off season, I was hoping that meant we would exceed our earnings once the spring and summer traffic started to come in. It was nice to have someone we could count on to run the shop so I could enjoy a little bit of life outside of work now that I kind of had one.
The locals had begun to get accustomed to Chris and Scott being part of who I was, or even just knowing about it, so it was getting easier to talk about my boyfriend without worrying about paparazzi out in bushes or waiting to catch a glimpse. Especially now that the pictures had circulated around town from my trip to Australia. My first couple days back, I stayed low key and around my house catching up on some upkeep. Rachel came over and then we decided to go out to eat at our favorite place. Saturdays had always been the night to go if you wanted to meet up with anyone else who may be going. Once there, whoever had shown up sat together and enjoyed the company.
I hadn't been in so long that it almost felt awkward. Making our way to the usual set of tables, we found a few others had the same idea tonight. Out of about ten people, I heard him. Tommy, obviously a few drinks in already, called my name, loudly. "Y/N! You're here!"
"Hey Tommy."
"Long time no see! I was worried you forgot all about me."
"Now, how could I ever do that?"
"New boyfriend. New friends. Lots of new friends actually. Traveling to Australia. I saw the pictures. You're in the news now."
"Well, when people are waiting in airports and on sidewalks, snapping pictures of you when you are just trying to live life, pictures happen."
"Especially when you're keeping company with Superman and Thor plus you're dating Captain America."
Rachel spoke up now. "Well, buckle up and hold on tight because our girl is about to go on a press tour with Superman AND Cap so there may be lots of pictures in our future."
I gave Rachel a look, hoping she wouldn't spill anymore secrets before I addressed the expression on Tommy's face. "Well, what'd y'all expect? I mean, Chris is my boyfriend and Henry is one of my good friends. Calvin was already trying to figure out if he could come back to stay here for the shop so I could go, but Rachel said she had it."
Rachel acted like she was brushing off her shoulders. "Hey, I got this. I think I found my calling as a manager for Captain America's girlfriend's coffee shop. Now, if she could only set me up with the co-owner, I'd be golden."
Tommy frowned. "You girls do realize that I'm sitting right here and I think you're overlooking the fact that I'm actually a catch. Just because I'm not a big shot actor or don't have an accent, doesn't mean anything."
Rachel and I made a big deal with our coos over our friend. She over exaggerated her words though. "Awe! Tommy, we all know you look like you stepped out of a magazine too. For me, I cannot date someone who is prettier than me though and you far exceed me in the beauty category. As for Y/N, well, this one is meant to be, just face the facts. I mean, she had warded off any kind of love for so long. If we're being honest, Calvin would have dated her and we all know you've had the hots for her since she stepped foot in this town. You've definitely tried your hardest to pursue her. But alas, somehow she decided it was a good idea and friend zoned you both. She fought her feelings with Chris too for a long time, again I have no clue why, but he won the fight."
