The three standing by your side winced as you let out a painful cough. As the familiar deep purple petals fluttered around your frail body, you sunk back into bed with help from Leif. "Careful, careful..." You had grown rather close to him, and he cared so strongly for you; You had even made a promise not to leave each other. If only it was him that you loved, he would never let you die... Not like Rhys, who was too oblivious to realize that you were even sick in the first place. He was quite literally going to be the death of you and you weren't even sure that he'd notice...

You didn't look at your friends, but you reached out to touch Leif's cheek, trying to make sure he stayed calm.

Leif rested his hand over yours and pressed it into his face. "Are you sure you don't want me to kill him?"

"I couldn't bare it...!" You choked out, only to cough out more petals. Pierce ushered Leif to the side and gently rubbed your back to soothe you. "Th-Thank you..."

Ava frowned, taking a place beside him. She kneeled at the side of your bed, resting her head near you legs. "(N/n)... you shouldn't be suffering like this... Rhys is just some stupid guy, you should just get the surgery."

You shifted to lay on your side, facing away from them. "Leave me be..."

Leif stepped forward again, setting his hand on your hip. "(Y/n)... c-c'mon, I don't want to lose you-!"

"Leave!" You coughed out, loudly, a mass of petals escaping your mouth and red liquid dripping from you soft lips. Ava took a moment, then stood up and led Pierce and Leif from your bedroom. Neither of them fought you on it...

The second you heard the door close and you were sure that they were out of the room, tears flooded into your eyes. Your friends didn't need to know how bad things actually were for you, but it was much worse than they thought. You wheezed through your sobs, struggling to breathe with the petals and blood rising in your throat like bile. You couldn't see the flowers, but they were a mixture of aconites and petunias; Those were the flowers of hatred and resentment, which was without a doubt how you wanted to feel, but your love was too strong and you couldn't deny you feelings for Rhys.

Love was more painful than anything you had ever felt. You pale hands shuddered and your eyes flickered to a close, as you tried to make how ever much time you had left as peaceful as possible.

Leif snuck away from Ava and Pierce as soon as he got the chance, and it a fit of rage, went in search of Rhys. He was still in the library, scanning through books, when Leif entered and hit him hard in the back of the head.

"Ow!" Rhys gasped, turning to face Leif with anger. "What do you think you're doing?"

Leif shoved Rhys back, making him fall into a shelf while several books collapsed on his head. "What do youthink you're doing?!" He damn-near screamed at the advisor. "You're over here doing everything for yourself and for stupid Asch while (Y/n) is out there literally dying for you!"

Rhys' eyes softened as he looked up at the assassin. "Dying...?" He asked, pushing himself back to his feet with a pained grunt. "Wh-What do you mean dying?"

"I mean they're dying of a human disease because you're too damn stupid to realize that they're in love with you!" Leif felt like he was on the verge of crying, he had never felt so strongly about someone since he had lost his brothers. As far as he was concerned, you were his new family and if Rhys let you die, he'd be a deadman...

Rhys swore he felt his heart cease beating. "Wh... Where are they?"

Leif huffed at him. "In their room..." He glared at Rhys, coldly, and blocked his path. "You don't deserve to even see them."

"Leif, please..." Rhys argued. "I need to see them, I-I love them too...!" He was trying so hard to maintain his composure but the thought of you on your deathbed was so world-shattering to him that he felt he couldn't take it. "P-Please let me through, Leif, I'll do everything I can to save them... I know you c-care to..."

Leif hesitated, but eventually gave in and stepped to the side to let Rhys pass. "If you let them die, I'll kill you..."

The blue-horned Daemos ignored Leif's threat and didn't even bother to thank him as he rushed out of the library and to the apartment. On his way, he thought of what he would tell you. I love you too, don't die on me... no, that's too informal... I've been in love with you since the day I've met you and I promise to keep you safe for as I live... n-no, no, that one's too much... (Y/n), I don't believe that I'm quite worth dying for, but I've always loved you... ugh, that one takes too long to get to the point... how do I tell them?

He didn't bother noting Ava or Pierce in the living room, still on his own head with how to tell you. However, when he stepped into the room and saw your weakened form, all of his senses left him in an instant.

Rhys ran to you bedside, collapsing to his knees while grasping your delicate, shaking hand. He held it against his face as tears spilled over his eyes and streamed down his nervous-written face. "I love you...!"

Your eyes widened as you looked back at him. "Wh-What?" Suddenly, you didn't feel as weak; Your body was still aching, but it felt as though you had been give more energy.

"I love you so much, I always have...!" The Daemos couldn't seem to control his actions as he rose back to his feet and quickly pressed his lips to yours. Then, as soon as he realized what he had done, he pulled away. "M-My apologies, I should've-"

He didn't get a chance to finish the apology, as your hand grasped the collar of his cloak and pulled him down into a second kiss. He gasped against your lips, but melted into the kiss. You pulled away after a minute, panting. "I-I love you too..."

Rhys let out a laugh if relief, feeling as though he may just cry all over again, but he settled in the bed at your side, holding your waist and guiding you to lay against him. You buried you face in his chest, finally feeling at peace as opposed to your tormented state just mere minutes ago. You knew in your heart that Ava was wrong when she said Rhys was just some stupid guy... he was your guy and he would always be there to protect you...
