Buzz... Buzz... Buzz...
You winced through the sound of your phone going off, trying to ignore it. It was only Lorelei trying to get you to hang out with her and her friends, despite the fact that they had treated you and Ava like nothing in high school just because of some stupid rumors.
Buzz... Buzz... Buzz...
Lorelei always tries to play it off by saying stuff like, "Oh c'mon, (Y/n), we were just kids! Kids make mistakes!" but as you recall, most of them were seniors, mere months away from being adults. If you wanted to listen to BS like that, you'd listen to Asch try and explain "E-urth" to you with what he's learned over the last few days (which is nothing).
Buzz... Buzz... Buzz...
You were really getting fed up, especially because the call kept getting in the way of your notes screen. You were busy trying to walk your way through writing a confession. This was more important than Lorelei.
(Y/n)?... Hello?... Wanna hang out?...
Now she was texting. You groaned, tossing your phone to the side, hanging on your last nerve for dear life. You had half a mind to block the girl and move on but Lorelei wasn't so bad. It was her friends that were the problem. You didn't want to hurt the brunette's feelings but... God, was she pushy...
"(Y/n)? You good?" You looked up to your doorway, seeing Ava in her pajamas. The collar of her top was too big and fell off her shoulder, something so adorable you thought you might explode. How would you ever confess to her?
You shook your head, shifting to lie on your side. "Lorelei's harassing me about hanging out but no means no." Your eyes flicker away from Ava and you bite your lip.
She walks over, sitting on the bed beside your legs. "I-I know how Lorelei's friends are and all... and how I am with them, but... maybe give it a shot?" Ava suggested. You looked up at her, wearily, shocked by her words.
"What do you-"
"I mean, you don't have to listen to me, I know I'm kind of over exaggerating... A-And you're more extroverted than me, besides..." She states.
You looked away. "I was working on something anyways. Plus, I still don't really like Lorelei's friends. Even if I did show up, they probably wouldn't acknowledge me at all." You briefly glance back at the girl, a small smile finding its way onto your lips. "I think my time is better spent with you, anyways..."
Ava's face flushes at that and she changes her position to lie in the bed next to you. "That's r-really nice and all, but... don't let me stop you from having other friends..."
The two words you hated the most: other friends. Everyone you knew, family, acquaintances, co-workers, always tried to tell you that you could hang out with the angry loner, Ava. Truthfully, you had no interest in many other people. No one was quite like Ava. You loved her and you made the commitment to yourself that you would make sure that she was never alone, that she would be priority number one.
"I don't want other friends, I want y-" The words came out before you could really stop them. When you looked back to Ava, she was staring, waiting to hear your voice again. You took a deep breath, in and out, before you spoke again. "I want you because I feel like you're the only person who really gets me. I could expand to other people but I don't believe that any of them would be like you, Ava..."
The black-haired girl let out a quiet gasp before she jolted up. She hovered over you, her hair acting like a curtain and blocking out the rest of the world. The boys were gone, Lorelei's texts were gone... it was only you and Ava. And you were never more sure in your life that you wanted to kiss her...
So you did.
In one motion, you leaned up and pressed a quick kiss to her lips, barely giving her any time to comprehend what had just happened. When you pulled back, she stared at you with wide eyes. You instantly regretted it.
"A-Ava, I'm sorry, I wasn't-"
Ava cut you off, laying close to you and burying her face against your neck. Her arms looped around your waist and you could hear her heart pounding in her chest. "I-I love you..." She whispered, as if she were hoping that you wouldn't hear her.
You wrapped your arm around her smaller frame, watching as her body rose and fell with each breath you took. "I love you too..."
You and Ava fell asleep that night in each other's arms, enjoying the feeling of being loved. You could both go hang out with Lorelei and her friends another day, not having to worry about being alone. But for now, you would much rather be with her...
