Rhys swallowed hard as he paced down the corridor, on his way to a lesson with Lady Grandma. He had recently been informed that a young scholar would arrive soon to become a pupil to the former queen along with him. Someone like that could potentially cost him a position as an advisor to one of the two princes in the castle.

He entered the room, keeping his head down once he saw the blurry images of who he recognized as Lady Grandma and another Daemos.

"Rhys, you're just in time." The older woman greeted him. "Take your potion, I have someone you should meet before our lesson."

Anxiety lingered in Rhys' mind as he retrieved a potion of temporary sight from his belt, quickly drinking it from the vile. He blinked a few times, the room around him becoming clear.

"I'd like you to meet (Y/n), the scholar I'm sure you've been hearing about." Rhys hesitated before he turned to look at the other pupil. The minute he laid his eyes on them, he swore his heart stopped.

In an instant, all of his anxiety was quickly replaced by a feeling that he was unfamiliar with. He felt a sudden rush of euphoria, along with the pounding of his heart in his chest. One look at their (h/l), silky (h/c) hair, their sparkling (e/c) eyes, their soft, full lips had his head spinning. Their (f/c) horns looked delicate and smooth, the color matching that of their robes. (Y/n) was not like any Daemos Rhys had ever seen.

They bowed their head to him, politely. "Good day, Rhys. I have heard much about you." When they lifted their head, they shot him a smile, which was unusually pleasant for a Daemos. That, of course, only made the blood rush to his face even more.

"G-Greetings, (Y/n). I was not anticipating that you would be here so soon." He quickly bowed back to them. "My sincerest apologies."

"Do not apologize, I'm sure you had other things on your plate." (Y/n) countered. "I've been told that you're en route to becoming an advisor to Prince Asch. Truly, that's more important than meeting me."

Lady Grandma shook her head. "Do not downgrade yourself, (Y/n). You've accomplished a great amount, especially for your age." She stated, stepping away from the two younger Daemos. "With assistance from me, the High Council will offer you a seat in no time."

(Y/n) shrugged their shoulders, subtly. "If you're sure, m'lady."

Rhys couldn't believe what he was hearing. (Y/n) wished to join the High Council, truly an admirable feat. Everything about them seemed to make Rhys swoon. No other Daemos had ever caught his attention like this before.

"Enough introductions. Let us begin the lesson." Lady Grandma began to speak of new spells that she had discovered recently, though Rhys couldn't hear a word. His attention remained on the scholar standing beside him, who's eyes twinkled with curiosity. He couldn't wrap his head around this foreign emotion that he seemed to be swimming in.

Why was he so entranced by (Y/n)? There were merely a Daemos, just as he was, with the preference of brain over brawn. Yet, Rhys looked to them as if they were all-knowing, all powerful, like an otherworldly being. But they weren't. They were just like Rhys, or any other Daemos around them. Still they were the one to dominate his thoughts...

The lesson passed in a slow progression, Rhys always messing up spells, misreading incantations. He couldn't focus. Not with (Y/n) in the room.

When the lesson finally came to a close, (Y/n) left with Rhys. They turned to face him again and his felt his face burn. He wasn't even thinking about it but... today he made a fool of himself in front of them.

"Rhys," They began, their tone utterly unreadable. He tensed up, awaiting backlash only for his dark eyes to meet their sympathetic gaze. "I apologize if my intrusion threw you off today. I take it you're not used to performing magic with an audience."

That wasn't really the case, but Rhys went along with it to avoid embarrassment. "Y-Yes. Though, I suppose your title doesn't help much either. I'm no scholar myself."

"Than don't think of me as a scholar, but rather an ally. Perhaps that would help you."

"I..." Rhys was stunned, struggling to keep his composure. He silently held out a hand to them, to which they responded by placing their own in his grasp. He lifted their hand to his lips, placing a gentle caress to their knuckles. "I would love nothing more. Thank you, (Y/n)."

At that, a scarlet hue rose to (Y/n)'s cheeks, but their kind smile remained. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Rhys."

Rhys bowed to the other Daemos once more, a smile of his own finding its way to his lips. "The pleasure's all mine."
