Leif x Reader

Relationship: Crush

Setting: Ava's Apartment

Third Person PoV

(Y/n) - Your name

~~~
        (Y/n) wasn't stupid. They weren't slow. They knew exactly what they were hearing, and every word felt like another blow, until they were a shattered mess, hidden behind a pillar in the Daemos' mini palace. They tried so desperately not to make any sound, as tears brimmed their eyes and their breathing struggled to maintain itself.
        They couldn't act too surprised, really. They knew this day had been coming for awhile. In a way, it was long overdue and the extra exposure to the boys was only making it sting more.
        The Daemos would be leaving soon. (Y/n) overheard them planning it. Planning a way to leave where they wouldn't even say goodbye. And in the moment, they all looked so unreadable. (Y/n) couldn't tell if it was hurting the Daemos to leave. And that hurt them even more.
        Especially because any hopes that had in pursuing Leif was thrown to the wind.
        A choked sob escaped their lips, causing the Daemos to look in their direction. And they made eye contact. (Y/n) returned to their feet, very visibly shaking, and fled the room.
        Their roommate, Ava, was seated on the couch just outside, binging Socky the Sock Puppet. And when she saw (Y/n) in tears, leaving the mini palace, she immediately began to wonder who she had to destroy.
        "(Y/n), what's wrong?" They rushed over to her, collapsing into her arms and sobbing.
        "Th-They're gonna leave us... h-he's gonna leave m-me..."
        Ava knew how (Y/n) felt for Leif, they weren't terribly discreet about it. So, she hugged her friend closer.
        "I'm so sorry, (Y/n)."
        "That was (Y/n)..." His words sounded so empty.
        "So much for the plan." Rhys sighed. None of them truly wanted to leave Earth, but they would have to. Rhys had decided that no goodbye would spare their feelings more, as it would give Ava and (Y/n) a reason to feel angry rather than sad at the thought of them. It wasn't ideal, no, but it was all he was able to come up with on a short notice.
        "They looked so sad..." Noi said, sounding almost as though he were about to start crying as well. "Do we really have to go?"
        "We've been due to return for a rather long time now." Rhys stated.
        Asch stepped up, looking at all of his men. "We must go and face the consequences of our actions. We failed our mission."
        "So you'd rather go home and die then stay on E-urf?" The frustration in Leif's voice had never been so apparent. Not in any other time that he had gone head-to-head with the Daemos Prince. "Why should we go to die instead of staying in this place that actually made us happy?! How many of you can say that you felt anything close to the way we feel here back on Daemos?!"
        "That's enough, Leif!" Rhys countered, but his words were easily drowned out.
        "Didn't you see (Y/n)?! Didn't you see how hurt they were?!"
        "They're a human. Technically, we shouldn't be caring at all."
        Leif stared his allies down, hands balling into fists. "I hope you all realize that they probably went to tell Ava... would you want to see Ava cry like that?" No one answered, all staring to the ground as if the answer would be written there. They looked ashamed. "Now you know how I feel."
        And with those words, he walked back into Ava's apartment.
        The Daemos remained silent, before Pierce turned to Asch and Rhys. "Leif has a point. We are all much happier here on Earth. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to wait around awhile longer."
        Asch and Rhys were silent, contemplating the options they had left. The answer was so obvious, yet it felt so difficult to commit to.
        "Perhaps the search for a magic source could go on for awhile longer..."
        When Leif emerged, he found Ava and (Y/n) on the couch, buried in each other's arms, both completely broken down. He cleared his throat to get their attention.
        Ava and (Y/n) looked up, and the look on (Y/n)'s face especially made his heart break. "Ava, could I talk to (Y/n) alone for a moment?" Ava was silent for a moment, staring at Leif as if she were trying to stare into his soul and identify his intentions. Finally, she nodded, before giving (Y/n) one last quick hug, and retreating to her room.
        Leif took Ava's spot on the couch beside them, but they didn't look at him. They couldn't seem to bring themselves to. So Leif wrapped his arms around their waist from behind.
        "I know how it feels to be abandoned. If there's anything I want, it's to make sure that no one I care for has to feel that same way. Especially not by my hands." He buried his face into their shoulder. "I love you too much to ever put you through that..."
        And suddenly, (Y/n) felt like crying all over again. They shifted in his arms so that they were facing him, and rested their head on his chest.
        "I love you too, Leif. I don't know what I'd ever do without you here. P-Please don't-"
        "I'm not going anywhere, (Y/n)."
        At first, it felt a little too good to be true. They couldn't really believe it...
        ...
        ...But when he leaned down and placed his lips over theirs, sealing their promise, they knew he wasn't lying.
