A sharp gust of wind cut through my aching body like a knife, as I laid on the forest floor just a few feet away from (Y/n). I reached out to them, but I couldn't move, my wounds restricting my movements. Hovering over them was the same horrific beast that had knocked me to the side moments prior, in favor of going after a human target.

I mentally cursed myself for being so powerless as I watched the one I love cower in fear, unable to defend themself from the other-worldly creature. I weakly clawed at the grass and dirt beneath me, desperately searching for some ounce of strength to fight back, some leftover magic to use against the enemy. But I was failing even myself.

"(Y-Y/n)!" I called out to them, eyes trained on their limp, bloodied body.

They stared back at me the life completely draining from their (e/c) orbs. Red liquid dripped from their full lips and into the grass beneath them. The fist that they had held while trying to protect us was coming undone, as their fingers slowly drifted away from their palm.

"No no no!!" I cried, helplessly, as (Y/n)'s wounds took over and their eyes went cold. And it was all my fault.

I jolted awake, suddenly, my eyes filled to the brim with tears. I bit down on my lip until it almost bled to prevent any sobs from escaping me. It was all a dream. They were safe. They were alive.

I swung my legs out of my bed, shakily making my way to the apartment, more specifically, (Y/n)'s room. I saw a light underneath their door and knocked quietly, my hand unsteady.

I heard shuffling before the door opened to reveal a drowsy (Y/n), dressed in an oversized t-shirt as their nightclothes. The way their eyes were dull and lidded reminded me all too much of the nightmare, so my eyes fell to my feet.

"Noi?" The asked, their voice displaying their sleepy state. "What are you doing here? It's the middle of the night."

I twiddled my thumbs, still avoiding their gaze as I tried to stutter my way through an apology. "I-I'm sorry to bother you, (Y/n), I was j-just wondering-"

(Y/n) shushed me, bringing a hand up to cup my cheek. "Were you crying, Noi? Your eyelids are kind of puffy..." At their words, a fresh wave of tears surfaced in my eyes and they immediately dragged me into their bedroom. "H-Hey, calm down. What happened?"

I almost threw myself into their arms, keeping them close to me. "I-I lost you..."

They led me to their bed, sitting me down and holding my head against their chest while I explained the nightmare. They would let out a low hum every once in awhile to show they were listening or trace soothing patterns on my arm.

"Aww, Noi..." (Y/n) almost breathed out, lifting a hand to my head and combing their fingers through my hair. "I know you're strong enough, don't doubt that for a minute." They lowered me to lie in their lap. "Stop listening to Asch and Leif's criticisms of you and see that you're perfect. I... think you're perfect already."

I felt my face flush at their words as I peered up at them from under my ginger locks. "R-Really?"

"Absolutely! You are so much stronger than you realize, not to mention kind and helpful and courageous." Their hand left my hair, instead placing a finger at my forehead and tracing it down to the tip of my nose. "If something like that were to ever happen, I promise that you'd be able to handle it because you are so much more capable than they want you to believe."

As they stared back down at me, I saw nothing but love and sincerity in their (e/c) eyes. Their lips were quirked up into a small smile. "Th-Thank you, (Y/n)..." I mumbled.

Their smile grew as they combed their hand through my hair again, evoking a soft purr from me. "Anytime. Now let's get some sleep. You can stay with me if you want."

A few minutes passed of them trying to get me situated in their bed, wrapped up in a blanket of my own, when I caught their wrist and dragged them down with me. They landed between my legs, with their back pressed against my chest. I wrapped my arms around their shoulders, engulfing them in the fluffy, warm, (f/c) blanket with me. "I promise I'll never let anything happen to you..." I whispered, my lips slightly grazing their ear.

I could almost see their sweet smile when they responded, and I finally felt completely at peace. "I trust you..."
