You were an eloquent fighter, always had been. You were Ava's first line of defense when it came to bullies in high school. Any time someone dared to speak ill of your friends or your strongest beliefs, you weren't afraid to be the backlash. Even when face-to-face with danger, a.k.a. the Daemos, you held your ground with no relent.
That's what initially drew Asch to you in the first place. Your fight. Your fire that had you both equally matched. The very same fire that was fueling your heated argument.
"For the last time, there's nothing to discuss!" He spat, knowing all too well that you wouldn't give in that easily.
"How could you even think about saying that?!" Your hands were clenched into fists, knuckles turning white to match your rage.
Asch has been expecting this fight for a long time, it was overdue if anything. He and his knights would be returning to Daemos, leaving you and Ava alone once again. You weren't angry at the fact that he was planning to leave you. It hurt you deeply, yes, but you were an understanding person.
The true source of your fury lied with your knowledge of what would happen to the Daemos once they returned to their world. Seeing as they failed their mission on Earth, rendering their killing of the last soul useless, they would be executed. And you couldn't understand his persistent drive to go back and face such a fate. It even had you questioning yourself...
"You can't stop me, (Y/n)!" He hissed, as a circle of flames surrounded the both of you. "It is my duty to return to Daemos and face the consequences of my actions. You fighting me on such a matter is a waste of your breath." Despite possessing the element of fire, his tone was cold as ice.
You stepped closer to your boyfriend, tugging his face down, closer to your own by the collar of his velvety cape. "Asch, be honest with me." Your voice was stern, but your (e/c) eyes softened, staring into his own onyx orbs, intently. "You're leaving Earth to go face a horrible fate. Does it reflect on your feelings toward Earth? Towards me?"
"H-Huh?" Asch's eyes widened, clearly taken aback by your question.
"Apparently, you'd rather die in a place where you were shadowed and unhappy than stay and make a future with me." You restated. "Is that what you're trying to tell me?"
Asch went silent, his eyes locked on yours. His hand slowly moved up, raking his fingers through your hair and sliding down to caress your cheek with his knuckles. The flames around you died out, the throne room's light source faded.
You two were left in the dark, standing close enough that you could feel his body heat radiating off of him. You so badly wanted to break and crumble into him, forgetting the fight and all the pain that came with it, but you still craved his answer.
You swallowed hard, mentally preparing yourself to speak again, desperately trying to ignore the tears brimming in your eyes. "Do you love me, Asch?"
"Of course I do, Pet." He finally spoke, not breaking eye contact for a second. "That's exactly why I need to leave you." His hands find your hips, drawing your body closer to his warmth. His arms snake around your waist and your hands slip up, grazing over his chest, to cup his face. "If anyone found out where we were and managed to follow us... if they found out that I cared for you..." His voice died out in his throat, but you could hear the next words, almost as if had said them. They'd kill you.
A few of your tears spilled over, only for Asch to quickly wipe them away with his thumb. "So you know exactly what I'm afraid of if you leave." You whispered to him.
"It's too complicated, (Y/n)..."
"But it doesn't have to be..." You presses your forehead and nose against his. "I don't care if I get to be with you for another hour or another year, Asch. I want what we have to last for as long as time will allow it."
His face flushed slightly at your words. "Pet..."
"Life finds a way. We were worlds apart, we never would've met and this never would've happened. There's a reason I met you and there's a reason you're still mine through odds and adversity. So you can understand why I don't want to let you go." You felt a weight lift from your shoulders as the words flowed from your lips. You both smiled, the previous tension fleeing from the room. "Stay..."
In a matter of seconds, Asch had you in his arms, your legs wrapped around his waist. He moved the both of you to his throne, the wicks on candelabras and chandeliers lighting the way as he passed them. Finally, he sat in his throne with you straddling his lap, holding you close as if it tomorrow you'd be far away.
How could he ever dream of leaving you behind? You were his fire, his match. He loved you. And to prove it, he spent the last minutes of consciousness that night sealing his promise with a passionate kiss.
