(Y/n) was distraught. Without a doubt, things were not going their way. Their dreams of joining the High Council were crushed when they were instructed to become an advisor for Prince Rhal instead. Rhal always refused to acknowledge them and their abilities, in favor of training with other knights and upping his physical strength.
Meanwhile, they had also recently learned that Rhys would leave them alone, when he went out with Prince Asch and his fellow knights to search for a new source of power in another world. Over time, (Y/n) had grown to be quite smitten by Rhys, enough that the mere idea of him leaving them behind sounded like torture.
But they had a plan. An offer that he wouldn't, couldn't refuse... right?
(Y/n) sharply sucked in air through their teeth, shoulders tensing up. Their fist hovered over the door, ready to knock but too shaky to listen to their brain's commands. Tears threatened to fill their eyes and their teeth snagged their bottom lip, holding in any potential sounds.
After a minute of hesitation, they allowed their fist to hit the door, just twice, creating a quiet knock. Rhys' voice softly replied, "Come in." on the other end. (Y/n) took another deep breath before they stepped inside of his chambers.
"(Y/n)? It's the middle of the night, shouldn't you be asleep?" He inquired, his deep blue eyes scanning over them with clear concern. He stood up from where he was seated on his bed, slowly approaching them.
Their hands found each other, as if by second nature, Rhys leaning down to caress their knuckles as he always did. (Y/n) ignored the flustered thoughts that were slowly overtaking their brain, their grip on Rhys' hands tightening. "I couldn't sleep, I've had a lot on my mind." Their gaze drifted up, their (e/c) orbs meeting his. "Can I confide in you, Rhys?"
"Of course." He stepped back, leading them to sit with him on his bed. Then he looked to them, expectantly.
(Y/n) cleared their throat. "Well... Prince Rhal views me as nothing more than a punching bag, despite the skill set I arrived with. Truly, I mustn't belong here." Their tone sounded so empty, as if they forced themself to sound blank in an attempt to cover up the sadness that came with their words.
Rhys' eyes shifted to the floor, as he planned out his next words. "Of course you belong here, (Y/n)." His thumb lightly brushed over their hand in a soothing fashion. "They should be grateful to have been gifted the opportunity to have someone with a... beautiful mind like yours."
His words sparked something in (Y/n), causing their impulse control to completely leave their system. They squeezed Rhys' hand. "Be honest... are you leaving?"
"I- Excuse me?"
"Are you leaving Daemos? I overheard Asch speaking to you and his other knights about leaving. Is it true?"
Rhys knew that he should lie, they were not one of Asch's knights, after all. But the sad, pleading look in (Y/n)'s was overwhelming.
He gave them a quick nod, avoiding their pained expression. But his sadness was replaced by an all too familiar feeling, that was still so confusing to him. (Y/n) had thrown a leg over his, effectively straddling him while gripping his shoulders.
"You're going to take me with you." They stated, firmly.
Rhys tried to find some kind of willpower to say no to them, but words were evading him at the moment. Who knew (Y/n) could be so... bold?
"Rhys," They readdressed him after his silence, their hands moving to cup his face. "Take. Me. With you."
"Why do you want to go?" He queried, abruptly. "You have so much potential on Daemos, to throw it away over a few negative experiences would be wasteful. Not to mention-"
Before he could finish, (Y/n) pulled his face close to theirs, pressing an eager caress to his lips, expressing their needs and their feelings.
When they pulled away, their arms wrapped around Rhys' neck, pulling him against them in an almost hug-like form. "I don't care if I throw away all of my progress, I don't and can't belong here if you're not here as well. You're all I have Rhys, I..." Their words faded as tears resurfaced, (e/c) eyes glowing (f/c) from their magic mixing with emotions. "I need you..."
Rhys was hesitant, but he already knew what his answer would be. Though words continued to elude him, his actions did not, and he pulled (Y/n) down for another, long caress, signifying his answer better than he ever could have just using his words.
"I love you too..."
