"You choose a cafe to meet me instead of a good restaurant." Arman...
A few months were by. Most of them had Alia wonder if he had broken his promise or not but when every day she came back home and did not see anyone standing at a door and waiting, she was relieved.
Somehow is Zaigham had managed to keep his word.
She sighed and leaned back into the chair. The office was hectic and especially when increments were coming in. It just got pushier and pushier.
"Hey," Diya tapped her shoulder. "Are you ready for the.." she kissed her teeth. "I don't even want to talk about it, that we could be fired."
Alia slowly exhaled and shook her head. "I don't want to think about it. No one is hiring, how—Stop. Just don't think about that."
Soon after she was walking to the HR'S office alone as it was a one on one meeting. She knocked and entered when given permission and took a seat.
"Rip the Bandaid or sugar coat it?" She got straight to the point after giving Alia a smile in the very beginning.
"Rip it off." Alia nodded.
She sighed leaned in front, joining her hands and keeping them in front of her at the table. "You are not getting fired but you cannot get promoted as well because we do not have that position to be filled here. This is why you won't get an increment as well even if you do get the title, which once again, isn't possible."
"Because you two people—"
"Yes," the woman smiled, "However, since I have looked into your history I know that you have stayed in Chandigarh which is why I can offer you a job in the same position which is to be filled. You will get the job title along with the salary increment and also a place to stay for 3 months when you searching for a place to live. Now I am giving you the rest of the week to think about it if you want to stay here or if you want to go back to Chandigarh work for a different branch with the different position much high with a good salary." The HR close the third file and kept it on the side. "See you on Monday." She cut it short and straight to the point.
Alia nodded and thanked the women. sometimes she was thankful that the woman did not bother with extra formalities of all smiles and giggles and just got straight to the point.
She took her seat again and this time did not go to the cafeteria to have her lunch it was the last thing on her mind right now.
She took out a personal diary that she always kept in her bag and opened up a random page, drew a line in the middle of a page and made a pros and cons list.
Pros,
She had already lived in Chandigarh and knew better.
Cons,
Mum's memories.
Even after 5 years her mother's memories we still as fresh as they were on the very next day before the funeral.
Pros,
The salary and hike and would be good enough for her and she would be able to support her brother better.
Financial needs at this point in life came before everything else because her brother could need money any time of the day and she had to provide it.
Cons,
Him.
What if she just stayed where she was in the outskirts of Chandigarh then maybe she would not come across him.
She wrote more points but at the end of the day, the money loads her into looking at the pros more.
Alia knew that the money she had received from her mother's savings as a nominee and from her office would not last forever especially when she was spending and lakhs every year for her brother's education. If she was getting even a little hike in salary by shifting somewhere else which was much more economical than living in Delhi, she had to take it up.
Plus people were nicer back home than here.
She was going to take it up. There was no other better option at the moment. She would need the money shortly.
She stood up and went to be HR's office, maybe a week wasn't needed when she knew what she wanted and what her priorities were.
