The Lion Guard were walking through the grassy, yet dry plains of the Backlands, on their way to their first landmark that had the Moja Kwa Moja stone. Anga scanned the landscape from the sky, looking around for the landmark. Kion looked up at Anga, and called out to her. "Anga?! How much further to the waterfall?" Kion asked the Martial Eagle. "Not far. Just up ahead." Anga answered, looking to the waterfall in the distance. As she scanned the waterfall, she caught sight of a painting on one of the walls next to the pool of water. "And I think I see the first Moja Kwa Moja stone." She informed afterwards.
"Oh! That means we really are on the right path to the Tree of Life." Makini said, jumping up and down. "Indeed. According to Rafiki's map in the lair, the Backlands waterfall is the first landmark after Pride Rock." Ono informed them, as if he could see the map right in front of him. "Right. Anga, lead the way." Kion said to the Eagle. Anga flew higher into the sky, and guided the team to the waterfall. While they were making their way to the waterfall, Kion noticed that Alice hadn't said a word since yesterday, after reassuring her that they would they would go back to the Pride Lands when all of this is over. It looked like his mate was in deep thought, and whatever she was thinking about, was making her upset.
"Hey, Ally? Something bothering you?" He asked his Wolf. Alice snapped out of her thoughts, and stammered a little bit. "What? Oh, y-yeah. I'm fine. Everything's fine. I was just thinking. And.... I kind of wanted to keep quiet so that I don't say anything hurtful or harsh." She assured her Lion with a tiny smile. Kion wanted to say more, but didn't want to push her. He knew that she'll tell him when she's ready to talk. So he nodded his head, and continued walking with her. Alice didn't like that she had to lie to Kion like that. Well,.......... it wasn't a complete lie. She did, in fact, want to keep quiet to keep herself from snapping at anyone who talked to her. But what had really been going on in her head, frustrated her to no end.
She had been having a small internal battle with herself after what the voice in her head said to her. 'My my my. You're fighting with yourself on how to feel. It's almost like you feel bad about what you did.' It had said tauntingly. And she had been fighting with herself. And she still was. One half of her felt disgusted and ashamed of what she had done while the other half acted as if she had been justified with her retaliation-no, murder. Not only that, but the voice wouldn't stop saying things that implied that she had loved the feeling of being in power. Loved the feeling of knowing that she could do it again. And loved that she knew that no one could stop her if she chose to.
Alice furiously shook her head at those thoughts. 'No! That's not what I'm feeling! That is not me!' She told herself. 'It is now, darling. And you have no one to blame, but yourself.' The voice told her. Alice gave a low growl as she listened to the voice. Her voice.
Yes, she knew that it was her own voice speaking to her. The only thing she didn't know, was why that voice kept on saying all of these things. What was it's purpose? Make her go mad. Because if that's it, then it was doing a great job. She felt like she was actually going crazy the more and more she thought about it. So, she did what she thought was the best for herself. Lock those feelings, memories, and thoughts away, and ignore the voice. Easy, right?
~Time skip~
The gang had finally made it to the waterfall, and were standing in front of the Moja Kwa Moja stone. "Ooooh. That sure looks like a Moja Kwa Moja stone." Makini commented. Alice held back a rude retort that had wanted to get out, and watched as Makini tapped the stone with her Bakura staff. The painting lit up, and changed itself to look like the Tree of Life. "Yep! There's the Tree of Life!" Makini exclaimed excitedly. "After the waterfall, I'm pretty sure we have to find a tree." She said, putting a finger on her chin in thought.
