An old looking black car was racing down a road, the car – despite its age and wear – was driving surprisingly well. Likely because of its driver's intense care for it, the car held nostalgic memories that he simply couldn't part with.
He really should've been driving more carefully; it wasn't as if he were fleeing for his life as he had once been doing in the very same vehicle. But he couldn't help himself, it was still a relatively makeshift road and there didn't seem to be many other people on it. That was likely due to the fact it was late at night.
Late night...he thought to himself, that thought reminded him of the question plaguing him since he began his trip a few hours ago why would she be calling for me specifically this late? Must be seriously important...
He finally came up to a huge domed city, once the dome had been the city's only protection against a threat that had brought his planet to near extinction, now it existed as a reminder that the world's final stand and victory was there. That its heroes had been born there.
As it was safe of course, the door that had once been sealed shut almost constantly was wide open, welcoming...in fact, so much so that he couldn't help the faint smile that crossed his face. Visits to the domed city known as Corinth had been few and far between over the last few years. He gone off with one of his teammates and his sister, traversing the once destroyed world to help rebuild and perhaps make up for lost time with his sister.
Once the world began to recover, trees and plants beginning to regrow, roads being rebuilt, cities and towns recovered. People feeling safe to wander out in the open again, he'd settled down for a long while. Once or twice making a trip to Corinth to catch up with his old friends...but he just...life happened and he simply didn't have time anymore.
However, the call he'd received was...concerning, for several reasons.
1: He'd not received such a quick call in many years, quick, straight to the point, no small talk.
2: He'd been referred to by not his name, but his ranger title. Another thing that hadn't happened in years.
3: Again, it was late at night. Why call then of all times if it wasn't important?
And 4: He lived about 4 hours away from Corinth now and he knew for a fact, at least two of his teammates still lived in Corinth and that it would've been much easier to message one of them...unless...
Well that was thing. There was only one reason he'd be the one called despite the inconvenience. It was his specific powers that were needed...
He pulled his car into the city, a small parking area sitting relatively close inside the gate. He was startled at first, it hadn't been there the last time he'd visited, but then again the city had already changed quite a bit. As he pulled out he was met with a familiar voice.
"I estimated you'd be arriving soon"
He turned, a smile crossing his face as he walks over hand extended to the woman, she was dressed in a white lab coat (that was familiar at least) and her hair was short and black in a bob, (something else familiar.)
"Its good to see you again Doctor K."
She shakes his hand nodding politely.
"And you too, but unfortunately we really don't have time for pleasantries."
"Understood, fill me in. I imagine you must really need me if you didn't get Ziggy or Scott to handle this"
"Yes, follow me" she says with a serious expression "I'm sure you remember the way?"
