The List. 14. Rose

"Your allergies are going to go crazy," I say as Maddy pulls up to a field of wild flowers.

"If I get stung by a bee..." Nina mutters. I get out of the car and walk to the flowers.

"She could've hidden this anywhere," I say to myself and gently step through the flowers, making my way to the willow tree that stands tall in the middle of the field.

"Try not to crush the flowers you big oaf," Maddy says to Chase. I laugh a bit and keeping walking, careful not to crush so many as I walk. When I reach the tree I see a note under a rock. I grab it.
Hi losers. Beautiful isnt it? Well there isn't really an item for you here. Just enjoy the beauty.
I smile and tuck the note in my pocket, sitting down in the dirt. Maddy and Chase sit down, then Nina sits down in front of me. Maddy takes a deep breath, then sneezes. "Let's maybe not stay here too long," she sniffles. "Plus Rose, Anna has something for you at home. She just texted me it arrived."

"Oh?" I smile and shift my feet in the dirt. "She didn't have to get me anything."

"Well it was my idea." Maddy leans her head back on the tree.

"That's terrifying," I laugh a bit. I feel my phone buzz. I take it out and see Theo calling again. I stand. "Hold on," I walk away from the group a good distance, then answer. "Hello."

"Rose. You haven't answered your phone in like a day," Theo says. His voice is tired.

"I was busy," I feel annoyed. "Why are you so worried?"

"You could've been dead."

"Do you think I killed myself or something?"

"That or you were murdered."

"Wow." I clench my jaw. "I wouldn't kill myself Theo."

"Well after last time, I can't be too sure." Silence. I don't say anything. He doesn't say anything.

"I have to go."

"Rose wait I'm sorry," he sighs. I hear something click in the background. "I had a rough day yesterday, then today."

"Sorry to hear that."

"Rose."

"What Theo? You just practically admitted you think I'll just kill myself willy nilly."

"That's not what I meant."

"What did you mean then? Cause right now I don't want to deal with this. You're being mean."

"I'm being mean? I did not-" he sighs again. "You had me worried that's all."

"Well thank you. But I can take care of myself," I hang up, then stare at my phone waiting for him to call back. When he doesn't, I turn back to the group. They're all standing.

"Ready?" Maddy calls to me. I nod walking back to her. "Anna made some food so let's go eat, then continue the list yeah?"

"Sounds good," I nod again and walk with them to the car. As we walk, Maddy starts sneezing more.

"I fucking hate this place, I did then and I still do now," we reach the car and I get in. I sit down and lean my head back.

"Hey you okay?" Chase touches my leg. I push his hand away.

"Please don't touch me," I whisper.

"I was just trying to be nice," Chase grumbles. "Don't have to be such a bitch." He whispers. I stare at him, then look at Maddy and Nina. They didn't seem to hear him. I move away from chase. This is not the boy I was once friends with. I watch the buildings pass as Maddy drives. She soon turns into the neighborhood of Anna's house. She pulls into the driveway. I immediately get out and head to the door.
