Part 42 - Rose

"Rose!" I jolt awake. "Rose!" I shift and blink my eyes open. "Rose.. Jesus Christ!" I hear the door fly open and see Maddy. "You slept for like twenty hours! Wake up!" She walks to my bed and stands on it, nudging me with her foot. I sit up and push her leg, making her fall down on the bed.

"I'm awake!" I say and rub my eyes. "What time is it?" I check my phone, its 12pm. I really did sleep for twenty hours. I stare at my phone, my brain starting to process the five missed calls from Theo. I get out of bed and stretch. "I thought you weren't coming here until Sunday?"

"I'm not just gonna leave you girls hanging, plus we have some errands to run for Anna," I crack my neck and nod.

"I told her you girls didn't have to do anything for me!" Anna calls.

"You need to rest!" Maddy calls back. I yawn and walk to my suitcase. I grab out a plain shirt and my ripped jeans.

"Gimme a sec," I say and go into the bathroom. I change and look at my hair. It's pointing in all directions. I use the hair tie on my wrist and tie up my hair. I shrug. "Good enough."

"We don't have all day!" Maddy shouts.

"We don't have all day!" I say in a mocking tone. I open the door and walk to my phone. I clear all my notifications. I slip my phone into my back pocket. "Where's Nina?"

"She's with Anna talking about cookie recipes or something," Maddy shrugs. I squint.

"What's wrong?" I ask her.

"Besides the obvious?" She crosses her arms.

"You know what I mean Mad," I whisper.

"It's just my dad, he's still bugging about me going to Korea and not choosing to go into the medical field. It's getting repetitive." She shifts her feet. "I knew as soon as I saw him he would say something about it."

"But like," I frown. "You're doing so well, isn't he happy for you?"

"I guess he is yeah, but he would've loved to see his daughter be a doctor," Maddy laughs weakly.

"What a bastard," Nina says from the door way. Makayla and I both look at her and laugh a bit. "I mean," she steps in. "It's what makes you happy not him."

"Exactly," I nod. "If he wants someone in the medical field so bad he should've went into it."

"You sound like my mom Ro," Maddy sighs with a smile.

"That's why she likes me so much," I poke Her shoulder.

"We can talk about this more later, let's just get this stuff done," Maddy walks past Nina and out the door. Nina and I both clap once at the same time and laugh a bit.

"Come on," Nina walks out and I follow after her. I watch Anna slip Maddy something and Maddy act like it didn't happen. I furrow my brows.

"Be careful with your moms car Mickey," Anna smiles weakly. I see Maddy cringe a little, but smile and pat Anna's hand. Anna has called her that since we were super young. Maddy walks out and Nina and I follow.

"Shot gun!" Nina calls and runs to the passenger door.

"No fair!" I call and walk to the back seat door. "I get it on the way home then."

"Fine," She sighs and opens the door getting in. I do the same.

"So where are we going?" I ask Maddy as she pulls out of the driveway.

"You'll see," Maddy says in a quiet tone. I glance down at a list on the middle console. I grab it and feel my heart sink. It's Diana's bucket list, and behind it is her note.

"Maddy.." I whisper and set the bucket list down and stare at her note. There's dried tear stains.

Dear Maddy and Rose,
Rose and Maddy, don't fight over whose name is first like you used to do.

I laugh a bit and shift. I glance up and see Maddy looking at me in the rear view mirror, she looks away. I look back at the note.

I'm sorry. I know what you're thinking.
The crazy bitch finally did it!
I'm kidding. But I am sorry. Please don't feel bad or like it's your fault. I promise it's not.
I'm going to the Golden Gate Bridge, the place where it all started. Sometimes I wonder if we never went there, would Rose  have met John? Would I have met Matt? Would this have ever happened to us, Rose? Matt hasn't left me alone since I broke up with him a week ago. He's been threatening my family and my grandma. I can't let him hurt them. My mental health is worse than it ever has been, which says a lot. I tried going to the police but they didn't do anything. When do they ever? Ha. This is the only way. Rose I should have called you sooner. I heard about John and about your attempt but I was scared that Matt tapped my phone or something I couldn't let him hurt my sisters from other misters yanno? It's just my time. You know how much I've battled, I'm finally turning in my white flag. Don't be sad, girls don't be sad. Y'all know I'm living it up in hell right now. Probably beating up a President or something. I'm at peace now. Death is my
Friend and I have made my peace with that. Oh and Maddy My grandma has something for you. It's my bucket list. I wish I could've done more of those things with you guys. But, there's things on there i would like you two to complete for me. Remember me for who I was, not how I left.
I will love you two forever.
I'm waiting for the day I see you.

I suck in a breath and look up. Hot tears running down my face. She's really gone. I set the note aside and grab the bucket list. There's a lot of things crossed out. I look to the bottom.
13: go to where we thought we could fly. There you'll find something I left for you guys.
I look out the window as Makayla pulls into a SkyMax. I clear my throat thinking about how Diana went to these places alone, knowing what she was gonna do. Maddy parks the car.

"Let's go bitches, we got some flying to do." Maddy gets out of the car.
