I was sitting on the couch watching TV when my son, Jackson, waddled up to me. I picked him up and sat him on the couch with me as he dropped a ball next to me. I picked it up and lightly tossed it to him, so he could catch it. Well, sort of catch it. He doesn't know how to catch things without dropping them yet.
I got up from the couch and picked him up before sitting us down on the floor. "Okay buddy, catch!" I said as I tossed the ball to him. He caught it but threw it as he caught it and it dropped to the floor. We tried a couple more times, before Emma walked in. "What are you two doing?" Emma asked, noticing the ball.
Jackson waddled over to her, showing her the ball, and probably wanting her to play with us. She picked him up and kissed his cheeks, earning a giggle from the boy. "If you two are playing catch, you have to go outside. I don't want you to break anything." She said, handing Jackson to me and kissing the top of his head.
"Alright. We'll go outside." I said, taking the ball and going outside with Jackson. We went outside and I passed him the ball a couple times, him dropping it most of the time and then trying to throw it back. He never made it too far. After a few minutes, it got cold, so I brought us back inside.
When we went inside, I was throwing the ball up and down in my hand, before Jackson tried to reach for it and it knocked out of my hands, and right into the vase on the table. The vase fell off the table and shattered. Emma walked in at the wrong time unfortunately and saw the vase shattered on the floor. "I told you to play with that outside (Y/n)!" she yelled as she took Jackson from my arms and rocked him back and forth once she saw him motioning for her.
"We did. It just got too cold! This whole situation is a misunderstanding really." I said, trying to get her to calm down. "Well obviously not, since our vase is broken! Jackson could've gotten hurt!" She whisper yelled, trying not to disturb the child on her shoulder, nearly asleep under her touch.
"Like I said, a huge misunderstanding really." I said, trying to get her to hear me out. "You are on the couch tonight." Emma said, leaving the room with Jackson, getting him to bed. I got on the couch and tried my best to make it comfortable. If only she would hear me out, but I love her anyways.
