(Y/n)and Emma were going out for a walk while Michael was at home learning. He was doing online school because of the pandemic and his school hasn't opened backup yet. While (Y/n) and Emma were out, Michael was in his room doing his schoolwork.

Michael was old enough to be at home by himself for long periods of time, however, it had been hot outside, and California had been known for fires. The dry air had caused a fire on the first floor of the house, which had quickly escalated.

(Y/n) and Emma walked back to their house to see it on fire, and Michael was still inside. "Oh my god..." (Y/n) whispered, seeing the flames. He didn't think about Michael still being inside. Emma was one step ahead of him and calling her son's phone. "(Y/n)...Michael's not answering! He's still in there! Michael's still inside!" Emma exclaimed, growing more nervous by the minute. "Call the fire department! I'll go see if I can get him out." (Y/n) told her, trying to find a way inside.

If (Y/n) couldn't get in, there was a very good chance Michael couldn't get out, if he even knew about the fire. From the looks of it, his room was unharmed. Emma was less concerned about the fire being put out, and more on seeing if Michael was fine, by repeatedly calling his phone. Unfortunately, his phone was on silent and sitting on his bedside table, so he didn't hear her calling him. Meanwhile, Michael was just focused on his schoolwork, listening to music on his computer while he worked.

(Y/n) made his way back to Emma. "You couldn't get in?" Emma asked, more worried than ever before. "No. If he's still in there, he can't get out. Did you call the fire department?" (Y/n) asked frantically. "No! I've been trying to see if he would pick up! I need to know if he's okay! I can't lose him, he's my baby! He needs to be okay! I just need Michael to answer the phone, I need to hear him say he's fine and safe!" Emma yelled, breaking down, tears flowing down her face freely. "He's going to be fine Em. Everything's going to be fine...Michael's sixteen, he can keep himself safe, he's going to be fine." (Y/n) whispered, reassuring her, and calling the fire department, also trying to convince himself that as well. "Please...please let him be okay. I don't know what I'll do if he isn't. I need him, my baby boy..." Emma pleaded, pressing herself into (Y/n) as she cried, soaking (Y/n)'s shirt with tears.

Inside the house, Michael finally tore himself away from his schoolwork to grab something to eat. He left the room and made his way to the stairs, "Mum! Do we have any.... woah." Michael whispered, seeing the fire downstairs growing rapidly, and looking around trying to find away out.

His parents room was on the same floor, and they had a deck near the pool, maybe he could jump into the pool? That was the plan he decided on since he really had no other choice besides waiting for someone to help. Michael grabbed his phone and airpods and shoved them in his shorts pocket, making his way to (Y/n) and Emma's room.

Their room was at the back of the house, so they didn't see Michael come out of their room. "Well, here goes nothing. Possibly breaking a few bones is better than dying. Right?" Michael told himself, dropping his phone and airpods onto one of the lounge chairs at the bottom so they didn't break.

(Y/n) and Emma were broken out of their moment of worry when a loud splash came from the back of the house. They looked at each other, both of them seemed to be thinking the same thing, and they ran over to the back of the house. When they got to the pool, Michael had popped his head from out of the water, trying to catch his breath, and coughing up some water in the process. "Michael!" Emma exclaimed, as (Y/n) pulled him out of the water. "Are you okay? Are you hurt? I was so worried!" Emma asked frantically, (Y/n)patting his back as he coughed up more water. "Fine. I'm fine, mum. Really. Allgood." Michael managed to say in between coughs. "Michael, how did you get out? I couldn't even find a way in." (Y/n) asked, as Emma wrapped her arms around Michael and fussed over him.

"Don't be mad...I was going to get something to eat, and I saw the fire. So, I went to your room and went on the deck, dropped my phone and airpods onto one of the chairs and jumped into the pool. I figured it was better than waiting for the fire department. The fire's only downstairs, I couldn't get down there, and there was no other way out. That was my only option." Michael explained, fearing his parents reaction, more specifically his mother's because he knew she'd freak out. "You jumped off the deck?! Michael (L/n) what on earth were you thinking?!" Emma shrieked, looking him over for any wounds as he winced at her reaction. Emma had stopped listening to the rest of his explanation after hearing he jumped off the deck.

"Em, he's fine. That's all that really matters right now. He told you, it was the only way out." (Y/n) intervened, saving Michael from being yelled at by Emma any further. "Good thing you kept the family albums and important things upstairs isn't it?" (Y/n) joked, trying to get Emma to lighten up, and she nodded before fussing over Michael again. "That was kind of exciting...jumping off the deck. Felt like I was in an action movie." Michael whispered to his dad, Emma glaring at him before he saw her look and muttered, "Nevermind. It wasn't fun and I won't do it again." Before looking at his mother again. "Good. You scared me Michael. When you didn't answer your phone, I was so worried that you were hurt. I'm glad you're okay and safe. I love you." Emma smiled.

"My phone was on silent on my bedside table, I didn't hear you calling me. Sorry for scaring you guys. Love you too mum, you too dad." Michael apologized, hugging his mother, who planted a kiss on the top of his head. The fire department arrived soon after and put the fire out, and the top floor where everyone's bedrooms were was not harmed at all.
