(Y/n) dashed into the burning building without hesitation, trying to rescue a dog who hadn't made it out yet. (Y/n) just so happened to be a firefighter, and he was quite good at his job.

As he ran through the building, his breathing became worse. The smoke was getting into his lungs, and fast. He slowed down his pace, hoping to save some of his breath and continued on his search, avoiding the flames around him.

As he searched, his wife Emma, was waiting for him to come back at their apartment. He was never completely on time since he doesn't control when things catch on fire and how quickly they are able to stop them. She knew he probably wouldn't be back right away, and she waited patiently. She couldn't help but worry about his safety, but she brushed it off because she knew he was good at his job and could handle himself.

(Y/n) had found the dog and quickly grabbed it before he ran, the dog in his arms back out of the fire. His breathing was getting worse, and as soon as he got out, he collapsed. He was instantly rushed to the hospital, the paramedics determining that he had gotten way too much smoke in his lungs and had to be put on a ventilator as soon as possible. Once he had been taken to the hospital and put on the ventilator, they had assessed him for further injuries and found that he had a sprained wrist as well.

At this point, Emma was pacing around their apartment, constantly checking her phone for any texts or calls. (Y/n) told her that he would be home an hour and a half ago, and he still hadn't shown up yet. Of course, he didn't show up cause he was in the hospital, but Emma didn't know that. Emma snapped out her thoughts when her phone rang, and she instantly picked up the phone. "Hello?"

(Y/n) was awake when Emma rushed into the hospital room with a worried expression. When she saw him, her heart broke at how beat up he looked. He sent her a small wave and a smile, as she sat down next to him and took his hand, the one that wasn't sprained. "What happened to you..?" Emma whispered. "Sprained wrist and smoke inhalation. I'll be fine." (Y/n) answered, as Emma's worried look was still prominent. "You better be fine...I can't lose you yet. You nearly died!" Emma admitted. "You won't lose me. Not anytime soon at least. I love you too much to lose you like that. I'd have to do it in a much more badass way." (Y/n) told her, making Emma chuckle as she stroked his hand with her thumb.
