Bailey opened the door as soon as he heard Adam's knock, not in any particular hurry, but not wanting to let the guests wait outside which seemed to only be getting colder by the day. The sky was darkening quicker and for most the days seemed so much harder to get through, not the footballers, who were as always during this part of the year, in full flight.
"Hey Baz, thanks for inviting us over for dinner." Adam grinned, exchanging hugs with the Smith boy who happily returned the gesture, before turning to Kimmy and Georgie and greeting the elder of the girls with a hug and taking the young toddler into his arms and speaking to her in his baby voice, the annoying high pitched voice that everyone kept locked away for small children or animals.
"Nice to see you both." Tara spoke as she too greeted the family, all of them exchanging pleasantries as they did every time they would see one another. "I was told by the chef that dinner should be ready in fiveish minutes, so feel free to sit down and get comfortable while we wait."
"Are we going to sit in the kitchen while we wait?" Bailey questioned and Tara nodded at the suggestion, leading the group through the entrance way and into the kitchen where the eldest Smith sibling was fussing over the dinner.
"It smells incredible," Kimmy spoke, gaining the attention from Aubrey who turned around and smiled widely at the woman. "I'm Kimmy and this is Georgie."
"Aubrey, thank you. It's not exactly much but it should suffice." Aubrey said and went over to hug Kimmy in greeting, even the way that the siblings held themselves reminded Kimmy of the other in the strangest way possible. It was the lull to their voice or the half smiles that they did in greeting, sometimes noticing similarities in people is one of the strangest and entertaining things. "Aren't you just the cutest." Aubrey cooed and waved at Georgie who giggled back.
"And I'm Adam." Adam said sticking out his hand for the girl to shake, which she did so with the slightest hesitation. It wasn't exactly a secret when coming to the bromance between Josh and Adam, it was well documented and Aubrey would have had to have completely ignored that world to have not noticed it. She worried what could have been said about her, though she believed that Josh wasn't really a guy to shit talk. "I've heard many things about you."
"I'd love to assume that they're all good, but I think that might be a bit fantastical." Aubrey chuckled, Bailey sighed at the obvious distaste in his sisters words. He knew she hated people having a preconceived idea of her, making her feel as if she had already been fully judged before she even got a chance.
"I'd say majority good things, don't worry." Adam smiled kindly, he gave off a vibe of shyness. Something about him wasn't like all of the other boys Aubrey had met, it was his wave of calm and the way that he wasn't wanting to know every detail of her life as many of the other boys had. Not that she hated that, many of the boys at the club had earnt one of the largest soft spots from Aubrey, something that wasn't due to change anytime soon.
"Good to know, you should sit down. I'll serve up dinner now."
"You never serve dinner if it's just us." Bailey complained, quickly moving to dodge the tea towel that flew in his direction from where his sister was. "You're so mean to me."

The night continued to progress, everyone becoming involved in multiple different conversation on multiple different topics. Georgie was resting on Aubrey's chest as her and Adam spoke about how the team was going, the topic of footy couldn't be avoided all night and though it had for the most part up until this moment, the conversation was now in full flight with no ways out.
"It's so cool to see all of the hard work paying off, I know its still early but I love seeing everyone win. I guess that's what happens when you build up real friendships and connections." Aubrey reflected, a genuine smile on her lips.
"Yeah, when you're bought up the boys seem to love talking about you. Why don't you ever come by the club? They said that you would come to the open trainings every time, or even just hang around with Jaydo or something." Adam spoke, they both knew the reason, but its only human to be curious.
"Well after Josh and I broke up, it would just feel too awkward to be around the club. They are his friends, practically brothers, and I don't want to make a rift between anyone just because I'm there. I see the boys that want to see me and that's good enough for me. Maybe one day I'll come visit, its still just a bit too...I don't know, recent I guess." Aubrey answered honestly, even if the answer got back to Josh it wasn't like it was too big of a deal. These were things that she bet he knew, once upon a time he would know most of her thoughts, predicting how she was feeling about this would be a piece of cake.
"I think that as thoughtful as it is, you can't always let the past hold you back. I get you might feel like that and maybe that is true, but just think about yourself before Josh sometimes." Adam suggested.
"Would Josh be happy if he knew you were saying this?"
"What Josh doesn't know doesn't hurt him."
