The thing about Aubrey was that she was extremely stubborn and good at blocking things out, which was precisely why her and Josh hadn't spoke in months and it seemed unlikely that they would anytime soon. Aubrey finally decided that she needed to get over him and leave that chapter behind her because it simply wasn't who she was anymore. She moved out of the house that she had lived with her brother and parents and had moved into a rental by herself not far away because of boy troubles. This was the issue with her, she ran from her problems and didn't want to stay around long enough to wait things out and see if they would change. It was disappointing to everyone around her having to see that she walked out on things that could be really good for her because they got to hard or to complicated.
Josh was better at forgetting, he was better at letting himself be left behind and just distracting himself for so long that eventually everything was a distant memory and it didn't seem so real anymore. He distracted himself with training and pushing himself to get better and better at what he was doing. No one could get him to go and chase what he really dreamed of getting because he didn't want to be a nuisance. He felt as if he would be a burden if he went after the girl that he wanted when she had left him behind, though the actions of letting her go were almost entirely to his fault. Josh did what he thought necessary at the time and he would stand by his actions, because as care free as he often was, he did not want to admit fault.
She found herself not wanting to be by him, it was so much easier to protect her heart and keep to herself then to open it and let anyone and everyone in to hurt it. By keeping to herself it allowed Aubrey to work on her and only her, something that she found she hadn't done in a long time. It takes a lot for a person to accept that at a time when they were happy, not everything was perfect as they may have wanted it to be. If he was to not allow her to be an individual then she didn't want anything to do with the man that she had once loved. It was what led her to branch out and find a full time job as a teacher, the profession that she had studied so hard for yet had struggled to find a job for until the summer of 2021.
Aubrey taught a year 6 class and had put her entire efforts into fulfilling the role as best as she could do. Those that were still close to her from the previous part of her life, the part that seemed to have ended a few months ago, though they were few and far between. Were all immensely proud of her and the way she went about her job. Aubrey felt as if she was better for what she had left in the past. But would soon come to relive and reassess some decisions.
