Regulus
Everleigh and Lily were running around the field by the lake, screaming something I can't understand. James and Remus are stuffing their faces with some of the food we snuck out.I'm sitting at the edge by the water with my feet dangled in the water. Sirius came and sat beside me.
"Why aren't you over there running in the field with your girlfriend?" Sirius asks me, laughing at the girls who are drunk off their asses and running around.
"Yeah, I'm not that kind of drunk." I say and Sirius laughs.
"I suppose that runs in the family then."
"I can't imagine either of our parents being a fun drunk." I add and Sirius laughs.
"Noooo, I don't think they have ever been fun in their life."
"No, probably not."
"So.. Reg, what's going on?" Sirius asks out of no where.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"I'm not blind Regulus. I can tell something is going on. You and Everleigh are pretty easy to read."
"It's nothing-"
"Don't say that." Sirius interrupts me. "It's not nothing. Just let me in Reg."
"I can't... it's- it's something you don't need to worry about. I promise I'm okay."
"Regulus, don't lie to me. Everleigh looked worried about you earlier and you seemed- kind of scared."
"I really don't want to talk about it right here." I say.
"We can go for a walk." Sirius suggests but he's not getting it. I don't want to talk about it at all. I can't tell him yet. I'm not ready to lose him.
"I- I can't tell you yet."
"Why not? I'm right here and I want to help you."
"I'm not ready-"
"Of course you're not ready. You told Everleigh though, didn't you?" Sirius shouts.
"Everleigh is my girlfriend, we're kind of in this together."
"I'm your brother. I should be helping you with our families bullshit."
"You are helping me by being here." I admit. "Just by being here and-" but I stop. I don't really know what to say.
"Okay." Sirius whispers. "We don't have to talk about it right now but you have to tell me eventually."
"I will." I say. Either I tell him or he'll eventually find out. After that, he'll hate me.
"So, how are things with you and your girl?" Sirius asks, changing the subject. Thankfully, he changed the subject. "She seems really good for you."
I turn back and look at her now laying in the field beside Lily. The two of them are giggling while they lay beside each other. I'm not sure what they're talking about but whatever it is, she's laughing and she looks so happy and peaceful. So beautiful and pure.
"Evie is the best person I've ever met. She's so caring and understanding and stubborn as fuck." I say as I turn back over to my brother.
"You really love her." Sirius states, smiling at me.
"I really do." I say to him. I really do love her.
"And a promise ring?" He asks. "I never thought I'd see my brother give a girl a promise ring."
