Chapter 124
Koda's Thoughts.
This was it. THIS. WAS. IT.
I
WAS
HERE.
THIS
WAS
NOW.
I was ALIVE, and OKAY, and SAFE.
And READY
to
LIVE
the
REST
OF
MY
LIFE
HERE
with
Mr.
Zachary
Abels.
This was here, this was now.
And
This
Was
It.
In the dressing room I stood, staring myself in the mirror for the last time before I would be wed. Brad and Alexi were here, in white tuxes of course. Glittery white tuxes at that. Brad was sitting behind me on one of the cushioned loveseats, dabbing his eyes with a napkin. Alexi was patting his shoulder.
"Oh come on Brad. My mom is crying less than you are." I teased.
She was there too in a pretty teal dress. She dyed her hair again, this time with platinum blonde streaks like she always wanted.
"Come here mom." I said, beckoning her from the back of the room. She came up and stood next to me in the mirror.
"I remember when you used to say this was never going to happen." She said with tears in her eyes and a smile in her face. "You were so persistent on saying you would never have a boyfriend or get married."
"Yes, I did say that when I was younger."
"And now look at where we are."
There was a knock on the door. "Five minutes until aisle walk."
"Well," I slapped my hands at my sides. "This is it."
"Oh!" My mom trotted to a box in the back of the room. "Hurry and open this."
"What is it?" I asked.
"Open and you'll see."
I tore at the wrapping and then at the lid of the box, all the while she explained.
"That boy Mikey called me the other day, trying to find you the most kick-ass heels to walk the aisle in."
"But he helped me look. We got some already."
"He said the aisle pair were too bland, so he called me to get a suggestion. So, this is what we've come up with."
Bad-ass. White heels with various-sized spikes all over them. Five inch stilettos.
"These are gorgeous!"
"Well hurry, put 'em on! We have an aisle to walk down!"
"Okay mom." I smiled up into her face.
