ZACH's THOUGHTS

"Do you guys mind telling me where the HELL we're going?" I asked as we drove over an overpass on the freeway.

"No, we're just gonna let the anxiety kill you first." Mikey said to me. I rolled my eyes and let my head against the window.

Night time cloaked us as we pulled into a din but packed parking lot.

"Are we at the movies or something?" I asked. A big building sat  in front of us; a black being waiting for people to come.

"No." Jer scrunched his face. "Why would we go to the movies?"

"To watch movies."  I said in the dumbest tone I could manage. "Damn, were you born yesterday?"

"Do you want me to knock you back into yesterday?" He said back as we got out and I joined him at the car door.

"Well if he was born yesterday, he's one pretty fucking successful baby huh?" Jesse ruffled his leather jacket then tossed his hair around.

"Oh shut up. Let's go." Bryan said. We all followed his walking lead into the black gaping building. I don't understand. Places we go I ALWAYS remember, and it seems we've been here before. Why can't I place it?

"Ages?" The buff guy at the door asked.

"21." Jesse said.

   "Birthday?"

We all went in a line telling the man our ages and our birthdays. We walked into a walkway and I immediately felt the boom of bass vibrating my atoms apart as we walked through a doorway and into the place. I knew where we were now. The club.

"Oh shit oh shit oh shit!" I whisper-yelled under my breath.

"What? Didn't dress right to impress your girl?" Jesse's eyes danced with humor at me.

"Fuck you man. You could've told me we were coming! And yes, I would've dressed better."

"Well too bad so sad." He said back. I groaned to myself as we came in and walked past other people, heading toward the bar.

There she was, smiling and laughing at some customers, her teeth and eyes glittering like jewels off the light. She wore a black sweater and black jeans. He hair was wavy and was pointed at the ends with the way it was cut, making sharp, jagged shadows off her shoulder. She slid a cup across the bar to a man with a beanie on, and then turned back to another customer who had come up. She raised her eyebrows, and said

"Hey, what can I get ya'?"

"Zach, come on." Jeremy nudged my shoulder, knocking me slightly around. I blinked back into reality and followed them to the counter.

"Well, if it isn't you five again." She whispered. I really loved how inconspicuous she made us look; not necessarily making it widely known that we were here, but also recognizing us enough to know who we were.

"Yep." Jesse sat up on the stool, resting his elbows on the counter. He stared at her great grin, offering one of his own. "We have returned."

"Good. It's actually..." She looked at me, flashing me with big orbs. "Great to see you all again." She chuckled softly to herself and looked away, then snuck a quick look back at me. She was so... hmmm.

"So tell me what you guys would like." She said, resting her palms on the counter. I then noticed something.

"Why do your pinkies do that?" I asked. I reached for her hand, taking it in mine and examining the fingers on her hand. They were a metallic shade of grey, a purple gemstone on her thumb. Her pinkies though, kind of curved upward then went on normal.

"They were broken when I was younger so I can't straighten them." She demonstrated.

"Why?" Jesse asked, leaning across Bryan to look closer.

"The bone curves up." She said. "See, feel." She took all of our hands [at separate times] and ran our fingertips over them. The bone did in fact go upward and down. Weird.

"Hell girl, you're in Cali, you can get that stuff fixed." Bryan said.

"I could get them fixed anywhere genius." Koda goofed, making a funny face. "But I mean, yeah I-"

"No."  I said abruptly, a little to quick for the rest of my conscious to realize I had even objected.

"No,"  I repeated with a little less umf. "I like them. They're... unique."

She smiled so greatly, it was as if I just told her she won a million bucks.

"So, anything new from last times' orders?"

We all looked at each other and shook our heads. "Ring us up the same baby doll." Jes said.

She made our drinks then sat them in front of us. I began to sip at mine. Ahh, Bloody Mary's always taste the best the first go around. Koda then whistled a little at nothing in particular, just to pass breath, as another customer came in. Her eyes immediately got perky and she stood a little straighter. The guy came over to the counter, half sitting half standing on a stool away from me. He gave her a world class smile then reached out and ran his hand over hers.

   "Hey babe."
