We reached the waiting room where the boys and the doctor were all standing in wait for our return.
"Alright, just follow me." Dr. Manfreid lead us out of the room and down the hall.
"You know," he started up after a few steps. "That girl is very strong." We passed some nurses and came to a set of double doors where he had to scan his doctor I.D. "She woke back up before we started stitching her back up and told us not to give her any strong pain pills. She said she'd rather face the pain than be 'doped up'."
"Yeah, that sounds like her." I said to myself though Mikes and Jesse heard me. I chuckled a little, still staring at the squared tiles below our moving feet.
We entered a unit where other patients were. We passed a few of them and finally came to a cracked door.
The room was kind of spacious; a half sofa was on the far wall below a massive window that overlooked this side of the city. A recliner lay next to a monitor, a TV was on the wall across from the bed, a sink and a cabinet was closest to us as well as the bathroom immediately to our lefts. It smelled sterile with the faintest metallic hint of blood, but somewhere underneath was her unique, nice smell.
"Hey beautiful." Jesse said as he saw her and patted her leg under the hospital blanket.
"Hey." I heard her say.
Mikey, Bryan, and Jeremy all went in ahead of me and said hello to her. When I got in..
I looked at her. She was sitting up, her arms in her lap, one hooked up to a monitor where her vitals flashed on the screen. Her eyes were big and bright despite the blackness severely lining her left. She had scratches on her forehead and one under her left eye. The worst injury though was on her left cheek; a gash spanning from her jaw joint veering up jaggedly then down to the nook in her nose. Her lips were turned up in a smile, revealing the bust in one of them.
I couldn't resist it. Without any regard for the others around, I walked over to her and laced my arms tightly around her. I nestled my head into her neck, her thick, soft, wavy brown hair falling over me. I breathed her in deep trying not to let my eyes fill with tears. Koda gripped me tight too; holding my back with one hand, her fingers intermingled into the back of my hair with the other. I felt her quiver under me and whimper softly into my ear. I turned my head, letting my eyes shut tighter as I gently kissed her neck. It was as if no one else were around in that moment, just us. I held her like my life depended on it because... it did. I knew that in that moment if I were to die I would go happily. I was so safe and sound knowing that she was too.
I pulled away from her, looking deep into her glittering eyes. Never had I seen them before in bright light, but now I clearly could. Instead of being hazel like I had assumed, they were a rich green. Yellow around her pupil, light green that faded to rich emerald at the edges. Stunning.
"She should be okay. All she lost was a lot of blood and aside from the damage to her face everything else is in check. She just really needs to heal after now." said Dr. Manfreid.
"When's my scheduled release date?" Koda spoke.
"Maybe later today since it is early early morning, but no later than tomorrow." He looked at us. "I'll leave you all." I leaned back on the sink as he nodded and left.
"Jeez you look pitiful." Mikey spoke first.
"I could say the same about you." Koda joked back.
"I can't believe that cut on your cheek!" Jesse stood and came closer, threatening to poke it but just smiled and relented away.
"Yeah, me neither. I just hope it doesn't ruin too much."
