Jesse's Thoughts
We all sat around at dinner. We were in the back all by ourselves since Koda had reserved this spot a few days ago. We were currently at Red Lobster eating silently. There wasn't much talk since everyone had their heads down eating or just plainly not wanting to meet either of her parent's glares. I looked out at the grey sky and shopping mall behind us and then back at the eight of us at the table. I saw all the guy's desperate attempts to keep their heads down while her dad gazed at us all slowly. I followed his eyes around to each of us until he reached me. Unlike the others who had speculative eyes, I kept on with the staredown. I wasn't going to let her dad intimidate me. I mean, I wasn't trying to be defiant or anything toward him, I just needed to stick up for my men. I knew he scared them all, especially Zach since, by my account, Roy knew he was the one who was with his kid.
Roy went on, scaling over Mikey who sat to Koda's left, and then to her. She bit into her shrimp and it was then I caught wind of what was about to happen. Her dad was preparing to speak, and once he swallowed what he was eating, her spoke.
"So Koda," He started. I immediately noticed her somewhat relaxed appearance go rigid and her face flush. She sensed the tone in his voice like the rest of us. "Which one you fucking?"
I had to fucking restrain from standing up and walking us all out of there. Donna dropped her fork onto her plate and nearly screamed Roy's name angrily. It was a sad sight to see Zach choke on his food and then hid his head at the edge of the table and curse under his breath. Koda sat there, her face in her hands and shaking her head fiercely. "No. One. Dad." She answered sharply.
"Oh go blow smoke up someone else's ass, I see that big hickey on your throat."
"ROY!" Donna yelled at him. "Calm down."
"I brought you here for your birthday dad, not to piss you off." She answered with anger in her tone.
"Well I think it is a perfectly good question to ask my nineteen year old daughter who the hell she's fucking." He glared at her.
"Well dad, I'm sorry." She placed her napkin over her food. "Here's money for the bill." She placed a hundred-dollar bill on the table and stood. We all followed her lead.
"No, Koda, it's okay." Donna tried.
"Naw ma, it's okay. You two deserve at least the rest of your night to be together." Koda turned sharply and walked out behind the pillar.
I was the last to leave, but as I did I overheard her parents talking.
"What the hell Roy?" Donna growled. "She comes here with a present that probably cost her all her pay and you act a fool of yourself."
He responded with, "I think it's a perfectly good question to ask which one of those queers she's fucking. Did you see that hickey?"
"I did, but she's nineteen! Granted that's a little young, but dammit..."
I left out, shaking my head as the cold winter air hit me just like what Roy asked his daughter out of nowhere.
Harshly.
