Mettaton x Robot! Reader

(this is our first Mettaton oneshot! Wooo!)

Requested by the lovely corvid, Littleknightmare!~

You were in Waterfall, humming quietly to yourself as you watched the snails race. You weren't making any kind of bets, merely content on watching the snails, and feeling bad for the ones that were encouraged too much.
Sometimes you wondered what it would be like to not be so nervous around others, so with that thought in mind you went to Napstablook, since Mettaton was all the way in Hotlands and you didn't feel like trekking that far.
"Nappy?" You called, waiting outside his door since you couldn't really knock with your ghostly form.
"Come in."
Smiling softly, you floated through the door, whooshing through the hall to Napstablook's room.
"What brings you here, (Y/n)?" He asked, looking up from his music setup.
"I wanted to ask a question." You replied, moving to join him in the tradition of laying on the floor, and just generally feeling like garbage.(honestly same)
"Ask away."
"How did Mettaton get so popular? I... don't really wanna be so nervous all the time, and so I figured if I was noticed more that it would help me." You asked quietly, trying not to fidget in your spot, watching the room swirl with deep colors.
"You're asking the wrong ghost."
"I figured you would know... Mettaton is all the way in Hotlands..."
"I'd help you if I could, but I'm just as if not more nervous than you. So I'd ask Mettaton." Blooky sat up, and you followed suite, his room coming back into view. "I'll lend you one of my headphones, so you can listen to my music on the way there."
"And a ghost sandwich?"
"And a ghost sandwich."

Humming to Napstablook's music, you floated along through Waterfall, reaching Hotlands.
Ghost sandwich already eaten, you floated along the path, passing by the empty hotdog stand and towards Alphys' lab.
You floated right through this time, knowing she wouldn't be able to hear you through the lab door.
"Alphys?" You called, following the noise of scattering papers.
"(Y-Y/n)!?" You heard her stammer, and you turned the corner just in time to see her tumble out of her chair, more papers flying.
You winced slightly, floating over.
"Are you alright?"
"A-Ah! Yes I-I'm fine. Did you need something, (Y/n)?"
"I was wondering if Mettaton was around! I wanted to ask him something."
"Oh!" She took a moment to pull herself up off the floor, gathering papers. "H-He should be in the lab somewhere, he needed some repairs so I told him to wait for me since I had important documents to finish."
You nodded, floating off to go find your brother, Mettaton.
Growing up with him as a brother was... unique, in a way.
With you somehow growing up shy, that left you to look up to your brother, wanting to follow his footsteps. You weren't too keen on becoming famous like him, but you wished to be noticed more and have more confidence in yourself.
"(Y/n), dear! What brings you here, hm?"
You look towards the voice, expression brightening at the sight of Mettaton. You raced towards him and has offered hug, hugging back to the best of your ghostly ability.
"I wanted to ask you something!"

Mettaton was beyond delighted when he heard you wanted to be more like him. And so, putting more work on poor Alphys' shoulders, asked her to build a robot body like his for you.
She found no problem in immediately getting to work on your robot body. She ended up making it (style), your favorite style, and even in your favorite colors!
It came out a bit shorter than Mettaton's, but you couldn't be more pleased.
So, while Alphys turned to working on Mettaton's repairs, you spent that time getting used to moving your body around.
By the time Alphys was done with Mettaton's repairs, you were nearly a pro at moving around.
"Ohhh! (Y/n), you look positively adorable!" Mettaton squealed, rushing up to squeeze you in a hug. "Now c'mon! You and I need to go out and work on your confidence!"
You gave a quick wave and a thanks to Alphys as you were dragged out the door, already feeling better about yourself.
Little by little, Mettaton helped you gain more and more confidence, even having you appear on his show a few times. Needless to say, you couldn't ask for a better brother.
