Basic Plot: Everything is the same up until Chara and Asriel "die". I'll get back to why that's in quotation marks in a moment. Monsters were driven into the Underground by the Humans after a war, Asgore and Toriel have Asriel soon after. The next major point of the timeline is when Chara falls, Asriel is first to find them. Their childhood is the same as the original AU, they learn buttercups cannot be ingested, and later Chara eats some.(honestly I forget why in the original AU, someone please remind me) Asriel takes Chara to the surface, Asriel is killed by humans out of fear, and he returns to the Underground. Here's where things change, and why die was in quotation marks. Gaster is the one to find him and Chara, instead of their parents. Gaster takes them to his lab, and takes what is left of Chara's soul to fuse a piece of it with Asriel's. Asriel remains alive, the King and Queen believe Gaster is a miracle worker, for now. Gaster also tells them it was too late for Chara, as Humans are different than Monsters. Nobody knows that Gaster is mad beyond belief, wanting to take Human souls to fuse with Monster souls, and make Monsters stronger.
Other plot points I'm too lazy to properly type out: - Gaster is an evil scientist who captured each fallen human and experimented on them - Gaster managed to capture each human and fuse a piece of their soul with each main monster - Asriel is still alive due to Gaster fusing his soul with Chara's - Gaster has also taken a shard of Chara's soul to fuse with his own, this is unknown to the others until later - In order of fusion, it's Asriel, Alphys, Undyne, Papyrys, Sans, Toriel and Asgore - (possible TW: drugging) Asgore and Toriel were tricked by Gaster under the guise they'd be getting a "vaccine" for an illness that had been going around, instead it was an anesthetic, and he fused their souls with the humans' while they were unconscious, and then Gaster later fled with (almost) all of his work to hide away from their wrath - Gaster was stopped by the cast before he could start experiments with Frisk - ASGORE AND TORIEL ARE STILL TOGETHER DAMMIT - Alphys has Trauma(TM) and Mettaton works part time as her therapist - Mettaton is the only one of the main cast that is not fused with a soul - The two routes so far are the Good Ending (Frisk ignored Gaster's influence and gets everyone to the surface) and the Bad Ending (Frisk kills and uses the cast's trauma against them cause Gaster did sh*t to their head) - Alphys would sit with the captured humans, and talk to them about the surface. It becomes her dream to bring the humans, even if they're spirits, back to the Surface - Gaster fused Alphys with a soul after she was caught trying to free the humans
The Souls: Determination - Red Soul - Frisk/Chara - Most of Chara's Soul is fused with Asriel, so Chara's spirit is tethered to Asriel. Only a small piece is fused with Gaster. - Frisk is fused with no one, but it is found out Gaster had plans to fuse their soul with "Monster Kid" (the monster kid looking follower of Gaster)

Patience - Cyan Soul - Fused with Sans
Integrity - Blue Soul - Fused with Asgore
Perseverance - Purple Soul - Fused with Alphys - Would've also been fused with Mettaton, but the rest of Perseverance soul shattered after fusing with Alphys
