A/N: haha yeah this is gonna have a gigantic TW on it for it being based around a school shooting. Mentions of r*pe.
Modern.

"As we're reaching the end of To Kill a Mockingbird I'd just like to say, you students have been phenomenal throughout this unit. Really understanding the meaning behind this story." Our teacher said soon after bell rang and everybody arrived to class. I hated this class, despite my love for writing. I felt I could never really truly express myself.

"And as a reward for your excellent behavior, I will be excluding the big essay from the unit." My head shot up. I heard about this huge essay, and I dreaded it for two years until now. I started to smile as the class cheered and he smiled with us.

"Okay, okay, settle down-" He began before the phone rang, "Excuse me."

As my teacher was talking on the phone, I quickly grabbed my phone and started texting Dally.

Me: Thank god!! Mr. Ruth took the final essay out of the unit for period 6!
My boy<3: Lucky🙄 our class was a bunch of idiots and now we have to do the essay+ an extra paragraph.
Me: Was it the class or was it you baby?
My boy<3: both
Me: I'm bored. Want to go make out in the bathroom?
My boy<3: you read my mind:)

Mr. Ruth got off the phone and as he was walking back to the front of the class I raised my hand.

"Excuse me, Mr. Ruth, can I go to the washroom?" I asked him as innocently as possible.

"Quickly y/n," He said and I walked out the door and met Dally halfway.

"I missed your lips," He said and kissed me hungrily.

I pulled away from him and smiled and ran my hand down his chest and reached for his hand. That's when I heard it, rapid gun fire in the next hallway over. I felt Dally grip my hand incredibly hard and pull me into a nearby closet.

He pulled me into his chest and he put his forehead against mine.

"What's happening?" I whisper so quietly he could barely hear me.

"Just stay quiet, I've got you." He whispered back and the gun shots were closer now and I hugged Dally really tight and he held on even tighter.

We heard manic screams from the shooter running down the halls, banging on every door except ours.

Dally slid down the wall and I went with him, sitting in between his legs. He continued to hold me tightly and I started to cry thinking about the worst possible things to happen.

"I don't want to lose you," I whispered again.

"Shhh, you won't." He whispered and stroked my hair. I put my head down and continued to let some tears fall.

After a few minutes I put my head back to rest on Dally's shoulder waiting it out when I saw feet shadows underneath the door. I grabbed Dally's arm and pointed to it and he put one protective arm around me with an iron grip and the other reached and grabbed a hand gun and he held it close to his side.

I looked at him like he was crazy, carrying that thing around school. If they caught him, they'd think he was the shooter.

The unknown figure slammed on the door and proceeded to try the lock but just huffed.

"Dammit, Chris, they're all locked." The man said. I started to whimper and Dally's hand went over my mouth so I wouldn't be heard.

"Shit. Oh, Jay, forgot to mention. Saw this cute little thing with her boyfriend before you sprayed bullets, damn would I like to see her in bed." The voice I'm assuming was Chris said. I felt Dally's hand grip get tighter on my mouth as he heard those words, knowing it was me he was talking about. I grabbed his wrist hard and he realized he was squeezing and out his hand back onto gripping my shoulder.

"Bastards." Dally whispered. I slipped my hand between my chest and his wrist. I put my head to rest on his forearm as he lifted the gun to point it at the door out of rage. The footsteps walked away but came back quickly.

"Don't shoot yet, only if they open the door." I whispered quickly. He pulled back the hammer getting ready to shoot. The shooters rustled at the door a little more before we heard the door unlock.

I hugged Dally extremely tight, getting ready to die in his arms. But when the door opened there was Two-Bit and Ponyboy. Dally pulled the hammer back to its original position and let out a sigh of relief.

"Guys come on, we got to get out of here! We don't got long!" Two-Bit said and Pony helped me up as I grabbed Dally's hand and we ran out of the building as fast as we could.

As we got far enough from the school, we stopped and stood in front of a building and I hugged Dallas tight and he hugged back even tighter.

"I thought for sure I was about to lose you." I said a little above a whisper.

"Me too," He said and kissed my head. I pulled away and saw Pony in distress and I hugged him too for comfort. I knew he needed it.

"Thank you, Ponyboy. For saving us." I said still hugging him.

"How did you guys know where to find us?" Dally asked, lighting a cigarette with shakey hands.

"I saw you two run in there when I was on the way to the bathroom. I found Pony shaking in the bathroom after the shooter opened rapid fire and I told him we needed to get you guys and go." Two-Bit explained.

I let go of Pony and immediately went back to Dally's side, snuggling into him. I took the cigarette that was hanging from his lips and took a long drag. I only smoked when I was incredibly stressed.

"You should have heard what the sick bastards were saying." Dally said, seething.

"Oh we heard." Pony said, cringing.

"Dudes wanted to rape you." Two-Bit responded and looked at the ground.

"I thought Dally was gonna rip my mouth right off," I said with a slight laugh leaving with my exhale.

"Sorry about that, sweets." He said, scratching the back of his head.

"You were just protecting me." I said and rested a hand on his chest.

"We ought to get back to your house Pony, tell everybody what happened. They should be back from work." Two-Bit said.

"Yeah, I agree." I said and we began our walk back.

"I need Dally here, mom." I said, trying to negotiate with her to let Dallas sleep over, "We won't be doing anything. I just need his comfort."

My mom stood there, just looking at me and I knew she was thinking about it.

"Door, open. No funny business, this is a one time thing. Only because of the day you've had." She said and crossed her arms.

"Thank you," I say with a grateful smile.

I walked back into my room and saw him laying there, shirtless, smirking at my happy face.

"What'd she say?" He said as I crawled into the bed.

"She said door open, and it's a one time thing." I said and gave him a kiss.

He wrapped me in his arms as I grew tired quickly, the nervousness from the day still in the pit of my stomach.

"Thank you, for protecting me." I said and he kissed my head.

"Anything for you, love." He said and I snuggled closer to him.

"I love you," I said and noticed him smile and try to keep it to himself, knowing we didn't say this to each other too much.

"I love you too." He said and I smiled and closed my eyes, hoping to be asleep soon.
