A/N: modern
There's one photo left hanging of them on the wall that hadn't fallen and shattered.
It was a picture of the entire gang, y/n on Dallas's back giving him a kiss on the cheek while he smiled bright, the rest of the gang posing as Tim Shepard took the photo. She glanced at it frequently, wanting so bad to call his number and tell him to come home but this time she wasn't gonna be the one to crawl back to him, she had done it one too many times.
There's one photo left sitting of them on the side table in his bedroom that he hadn't yet thrown across the room.
It was a picture them that the gang took of them, she was sitting his lap in the back seat of a car, both sleeping. He looked at it every night before he fell asleep, wanting so bad to leave her a message while she's sleeping, telling her how much he wanted her back in his bed, holding her. But he couldn't do that. What if she went and told the gang? But she wouldn't do that. Maybe one of these days he'd make up his mind.
So instead, while waiting ever so patiently spending her time crying and fighting the urge to see him, she always went on walks to ease her mind, and it usually did. So right now she did. But as she pulled her coat on she turned around to grab a scarf and looked around her apartment and remembered the good and bad days.
~~~
"You're just being dramatic!" He spit in her face and she slapped him as hard as she could, "You bitch!"
"Next time I find out you're sleeping around I'm not letting you out this easy!" She yelled.
"You're also just fucking jealous!"
"Fuck you!"
"I will!" Everything went silent and as much as she wanted to cry and be mad at him she broke out in a laughter and he did too. She ran to him and hugged him, burying her face in his chest and he continued to laugh.
"I'm sorry for hitting you." She said and looked at him.
"I'm sorry for sleeping around." He responded and she smiled, "Anyway it's alright at least I know it'll hurt when you kick ass."
She pulled him down to her height and kissed him and felt better about their situation.
~~~
She closed the door and walked outside and snuggled into her coat and scarf and walked down the street.
"You're welcome." She heard a familiar voice say and she carefully turned her head to the direction, making sure she's not seeming too desperate.
There he was, helping an old lady cross the street. It was unlikely of him. She turned her head quickly and walked away in a faster pace.
He looked over and saw her walking down the street and saw an old lady crossing. He ran up to her and helped her cross so he could show that he's trying to be a better man. For her.
After he helped the woman cross, he ran up behind her and walked a decent distance. It was cold, he saw her shivering. He wanted to wrap his arm around her and keep her warm but he didn't want to move so fast. Better man.
He recognized the walk they were going on, she went on it when she was stressed. Soon enough they'd be turning and she'd see him. Praying that she'd see him.
She got to the end of her route and turned around and saw him. She started shaking and she stopped in her tracks when he gave her a smile. She felt she was going to cry just looking at him so she tried to walk passed him but he stopped her.
"Can we talk? Just talk." He said and she looked at him and her lip quivered.
"It- it's cold." She said and his look turned from desperate to soft.
"I know, come on." He said and guided her along to their old apartment. She stumbled over her steps and struggled to keep her tears in her eyes. She walked to the apartment door and grabbed her keys but her hands were far too shaky to get them in. He grabbed her hand to stop the shaking and she looked up at him, and he smiled before unlocking the door. She felt the butterflies fly around in her stomach to his touch. What she didn't know is that he was just as nervous- maybe more than her. He wasn't ready to face her.
"What is it that you want?" She said quickly before turning around and wiping her tears away.
"I want to make it up to you. How we ended w- was stupid!" He stuttered and she turned back around and threw her coat on the couch.
~~~
She waited up six hours more than usual for him to come home.
Me, 10:39 pm: baby, are you alright?
Me, 11:09 pm: are you coming home?
Me, 12:46 am: where are you?"You're still awake?" He slurred. Obvious he had been drinking.
"I've been waiting for you, texting you for hours." She said, crossing her arms and turning off the TV show she was watching.
"Oh, I'm sorry baby, got a little distracted." He said and walked into the kitchen.
"Where the hell have you been?" She raised her voice, standing up and walking to the kitchen.
"You sound like Darry, babe. Calm down." He joked and she tore the beer he had grabbed out of the fridge from his hands and put it on the counter.
"Why're you being a bitch?" He said and she beelined to the light switch and he protested, "We don't have to do that-"
She flicked the lights on and saw new hickeys on his neck and his hair incredibly messy and she stormed up to him and smelled the cheapest perfume she'd ever inhaled.
"Get out." She pointed to the door and he looked at her like she was crazy.
"Can't we just talk for a second?" He begged and she still stood with her finger pointed to the door.
"Come on."
"Get out before I drag you out myself." She said in a lower, scarier tone.
"Fine. But don't expect me to come back! Fucking bitch." He said the last words under his breath and as soon as she heard she hurried to the door and locked it and broke down in tears. He headed for the place he knew he'd get put straight. Darry's.
~~~
"It's been five months and you're just now coming back?" She said and slumped down on the couch.
"I did. I cheated." He owned up to his mistakes instead of making up excuses, and she looked at him like a deer in headlights.
"You hate me, I know. But can we try to fix things? Man, I'm tryna be a better man. For you."
"I don't know if I should trust you." She said and looked at the TV, that was muted.
"The gang hasn't seen you in months."
"I've talked to them, we text." She responded shortly and he sighed.
"I just want to try."
"I do too, but it's not easy to try when you cheated on me multiple times- with who? A hooker? Some lonely girl? Desperate for attention? Your ex?" She stood up and raised her voice and he stood there staring at her for a second before speaking.
"She was all of those things wasn't she." He said with a smile and she wanted to smile so bad but she had to be mad at him.
"I'm trying to be mad at you." She said and let the smile creep along her cheeks.
"Whaddya say, doll? Let me try?" He took a step closer to her and she looked at him for a second, admiring that he was back.
"If I say yes, you promise you'll stay a better man?"
"I promise." He said and tried to kiss her but she moved away.
"I'll make the moves." She said and he looked down in defeat and she aggressively pulled him into a kiss.
